I am looking at the following setup:
Alpine ida-x100 deck (i don't really use CD's)
possibly Alpine SPS-500 (5-1/4" Coaxial 2-Way Speaker Set)
possibly Alpine SPS-600C (6-1/2" Component 2-Way Speaker System)
Alpine MRP-F600 (4/3/2 Channel Power Amplifier)
possibly Alpine SWS-1043D (10" Subwoofer)
My question is - do I need another amp for the front and rear speakers, or can I hook it directly up to the HU? The HU produces 50W X4 where as the speakers above show 80W each. I know this maybe a NOOB question, but just wanted to get peoples expertise.
i had my kenwood DNX head unit (50w x4) driving my mains for a while after i installed my sub and there's no way in hell it could keep up without sounding crappy and distorted at louder volume levels.
the 50x4 that the alpine is advertising is peak watts. RMS is more like 18x4 and that is NOT enough.
get an amp with at least 100w RMS to keep up with the sub and you'll be much happier.
I have an Alpine XDA-001 and I tried to run my front components off the radio power and it sounded horrible.. You definately need to run an amp. I would run the front and rears off the 4 channel and get an Alpine PDX-600 single channel for the sub
alternator can handle it all day, guys are running 1000wrms on stock alternators
what about a 5 channel amp to do it all
alpine pdx5 is a killer amp and SMALL
or the infinity 5350a
both are 5 channels that will fit under the passenger seat of a z06. i just put the infinity under a forum memebers passenger seat search for threads i have started and you should find it
The amp wires directly to the crossover box. That box then sends out a wire to the driver and another wire to the tweeter. As far as the amp is concerned, you have a single 4ohm load, even though you technically have two speakers connected to it.
This is a matter of opinion and has been(will be) debated without end. I would never think about an audio setup without the rears. Yes I've heard it,it sounds like something is missing. Oh wait,it's the rear channels missing.
But anyway, the SPX are killer speakers.
