Hi guys - I'm looking for some assistance with a system I just had installed in my '71. I removed the interior last week, laid down some dynamat, and had some equipment installed. I'm not happy with the sound. I have not put back the interior yet (carpet, seats), so I'm wondering if that would make a dramatic difference. Here's my issue: I'm hearing mostly highs and bass. I hear no midrange at all. The system is an alpine cd, 2 Kicker amps, one 10" kicker sub, and a Boston Acoustics 3-way component set. I had this equipment in a DD a few years ago, and it was great. But in my vette, it sounds awful. Once I put the carpet back in, I'll play around with the settings on the amps & head unit. But, should I be looking at buying something to correct the problem ? EQ ? Audio Control product ?
If it sounded good before it should sound good now, check the settings on the components eq and also the settings on the amps. U should be able to tweek it.
Thanks for the response. I figured I could tweak the system once I put the carpet/interior back into the car, but it sounded so bad that now I'm just a little nervous. I plan on getting a new head unit so I can hook up an ipod. Maybe I can find one that gives me more control over the sound (eq). Any other suggestions are greatly appreciated. I'm not looking for perfection, impossible in a t-top car with a loud exhaust, but I want nice midrange, a little bass, and some clear highs.
I have the 6.5" mids in the kick panels, along with the tweeters. I applied dynamat to the back of the kick panel, made a 1/2" mdf spacer ring, and mounted mid to front of kick panel. Behind the kick panel is a space cut into frame for stock 4x6 speaker, so I threw some dynamat in there, as well. I had a shop complete the install, so I don't know what settings they used. They told me that once the carpet/interior is back in, I should play with x-over settings on the amps. I would imagine I would also use the treble/bass controls on head unit. Do the Boston Acoustics x-overs have adjustable settings on them ? There are 4 of them that are mounted next to amps.
