Default Critique my Future System...

Please be nice.. but honest about the system I plan to order on Monday:

Head-Unit : Alpine IVA-C801 (Same as IVA-800 but '02 Model) $1300

Amp 1: JL Audio 500.1 which will be run 500W x 1 4Ohms $399.99
Amp 2: JL Audio 300.4 which is 75x4 at 4Ohms $369.99

I like these two amps because:
1. They are both the same size (Looks matter)
2. JL Audio has a good reputation
3. I like how they look as a amp itself...

Front Components: JL Audio XR 3-Way's ... $389.99 MB Quarts are an Option too .. the 3-Ways are a special order but I can get them...
Rear Coaxials: JL Audio VR 6.5's ... $139.99
Subwoofer: JL Audio 10W7... $500..

All Wires will be Lightning Audio since I can get a good deal...( estimate $200 for high qualtiy stuff)

Please suggest items I might have left out... I have a 4K budget and have not reached it yet... I am at 3300 + tax...

Since I am buying all JL Products, besides the HU, I will be getting a break on the price by about 5-6% on top of the deals I have gotten in the price above...

I've never been big on JL midrange/component sets. But hey if you get a good deal and the sound quality is what your looking for then by all means go for it. Let me know how that W7 works out. :yesnod:

Im not a Fan of JL

Look into Mbquart or Focal for Highs.
Im doing a MbQuart 3 way Up front 8" 4" and 1" tweeter
In the rear a 5.25 Mb Quart Component Set
for bass yett i havent decided, Amps Im using alpine For the highs.
Most likely Ill end up doing a Image Dynamics Woofer ID10" Not sure about power yett on that.

I have been told about getting the MBQuarts too... but I have heard nothing but good things about JL Amps... plus I like how they look...

JL makes good woofers but average at best speakers and amps. Get real amps and seperates. The MB quarts QM and QSD series seperates are some of the best. Soundstream, Nakamichi, and A/D/S amps are far superior to the JL. And their speakers sound like mud. Other good ones are Boston Acoustics Pro, A/D/S, and Focal Polykevlar and Utopia lines.
The 5-6% price break is BS. The owner must be making a higher markup on the JL than other brands and is willing to give you a break because he is making more on them even with the break.
Get seperates front and rear. You don't need 3 ways for the front. A pair of 6 1/2" and tweets is plenty. You can add additional speakers in the front if you find it lacking but with a good set you shouldn't. Seperates in the rear also. I know there is one locaiton but seperates are far superior speakers sound wise to coax and can handle real power and make real outputs. With a $4000 limit, I would get that woofer, focal polykevlars front and rear, that deck, and two killer amps. http://www.mmxpress.com/ads/ads_pq40_2.htm
for the seperates and an orion xtr 900 for the sub.
The woofer is one of the best out there so stick with that. Also stick with good wires and the head unit you have chosen. There is also a new Alpine coming out this May or so that will have CD, CD/RW, DVD, and MP3 in one unit.
