I now have my cellphone playing through my Bose HU. Thanks to 99HT for the idea. It wasn't too hard but you have to go inside and solder a little. What I did was cut the audio outs from the tuner board. This is kind of easy since it is just wires (no need for REAL careful soldering or board cuts). FYI, these were the 4th and 5th wires from the back. I put a DPDT 12v small relay inside the HU and used 4.7uf caps to couple the audio from the CCM Navigator car speakerphone (for my Nokia 3360). I put a toggle switch on the CCM to control the relay. I actually put two relays in there (one more for the external CD player/walkie-talkie/scanner/etc.) but haven't finished that install yet. The level from the tuner board seems to match pretty well with the headphone jack on my CD player.

Can you give any more specifics on the exact wires that you cut/spliced in there? I'm interested in adding a portable MP3 player to mine via this method.
Sure, just be advised, PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK! It is easy to screw up, I bought a spare radio to work on myself! What you do is remove the bottom cover. Then unmount the tuner board underneath. It attaches by a group of wires at one end so you can tilt it up. You will find it can slip into a kind of slot (between the side panel and the amplifier heat sink) so it stands vertically. There is an inline connector with about a dozen white wires that attaches the tuner board to the main mother board. You then just cut the 4th and 5th wires from the back (of the radio). Cut them about in the middle because you need to strip the insulation from both ends. So there you go, the wire that goes to the mother board is the amp input and the wire to the tuner board is the tuner output. You need to put a relay or switch in here. It needs to be double pole (you have two channels) and double throw (one way is the tuner, the other is the aux input). The center of the switch or relay goes to the motherboard connections. For the aux connection, you should put a capacitor in series (10uf is what 99HT recommends, positive goes towards the motherboard).. Mechanical layout is up to you, that is the hard part! To use Aux input you must have the radio playing (eject CD or Tape).
FYI, I used a '98 Tape unit, there may be a difference in other models (but I doubt it...99HT??)

I applaud you for your perseverence. I wasn't sure anyone would be so adverturesome.
If I could only get a Delphi engineer send me the E&C interface specifications, I would program a microprocessor to tell the HU to switch over to the AUX/CD changer inputs. Any Delphi engineers out there?
Yeah, we need a Delphi Engineer on here! I want to ask him why the Dual Zone controller display is starting to die everywhere! This Aux solution is really the quick and dirty method, yours would be much nicer ;)
Well lotzahp, I am an Electrical Engineer, not a Mechanical one ;)
My layout is: mounted the relays upside down on the motherboard with double-sided foam tape over next to the big microcontroller chip. I brought the wires in through a hole on the left side of the radio (its kinda "U" shaped, was punched out for a motherboard mounting tab I think..) I put a rubber grommet in this hole to protect the wires and make the hole a little smaller. I put a cable tie inside around the wires to function as a strain relief. Used 3.5mm (earphone type) plugs on the end of the wires.. when you put the radio back in the car, you push them in first and through the big hole in the inner console metal piece. Oh yeah, I put alot of black electrical tape over the mess because I doubt that foam tape will hold it up forever... this was highly experimental and I expect I will have to fix it soon.. like I said, I'm and EE, not an ME :jester
Oh yeah, yes, the 4th and 5th from the edge facing the back of the radio. As I recall, the first wire was a black one, the others were all white.
You may want to check that you have the right wires before you cut them..
what I did was us a cable with a cap on the end which I plugged into the Aux of a spare stereo system and probed the wires till I heard the station I was listening to! Worked slick.. The only problem is you have to work in the car, unless you are 99HT with his spare PCM!
I also hooked up to the Retained Power which I use to power the speakerphone. I soldered right to the C4(?) connector pin as it bends down to the motherboard.. this was a pain because its the one inside the other one(C5?). I poked the wire in one way and then blindly poked the soldering iron in the other way!!

The mods are not using the AUX or CD changer input. The HU will not switch to the AUX input unless it communicates with a CD changer or other Delphi product ie. cell phone, OnStar ..etc
