Default Question about C5 amp mounting

I'm going to be installing my new sub stealth box enclosure and amp today in my '02 vert and I have a quick question regarding amp mounting. I know that when guys put the amps behind the seats, a piece of plywood is required so the amp mounting screws don't pierce the fuel tank. Is that the only location where that kind of plywood mounting base is needed? What if I mount the amp flat to the trunk space just behind the waterfall? Do I need a mounting base there, as well, or can I just go straight into the floor? What are some other good places to mount the amp? Thanks in advance.

I have an 04 vert and mounted 2 amps on the flat space I believe you are referring to, just behind the waterfall (whichis removed in the photos). When the top is down it is sitting right above the amps with a little clearance below the top. One amp for the sub and one for the front/rear. At the time I was told you must put a board under the carpet and pad to mount into as this was directly over the fuel tank. It was easy to pull the carpet up as there is a carpet break at the back of the ledge just behind the seats in a vert. I chose to cut out the pad so it wouldn't sit so high with a board under the carpet. I used silicon calking to secure the board, this will allow it to be pulled up should I choose to do so at some time. I have had this in for 2 years and no issues.

Here are a couple of photos so you can confirm if you are talking about the same location.

This is with the amps mounted to the carpet with a board under.

this is the same with the amp rack cover installed. the top sits just above this space.

Okay, looks like I'll be needing to install a board, then. Thank you!

Yeah, I wound up buying two strips of MDF baseboard molding that were about each about 2' x 5" wide and 1/2" thick. I used silicon to adhere them to the floor under the carpet. Between the carpet, padding and these strips, there won't be a problem with the mounting screws. Got everything installed and was able to test it out this evening. Still gotta tweak, but not bad! Not bad at all...

Hey fellow vert guys....

I'm getting ready for an install and just curious about some details on your guys' installs.

Do you have pics of your installs you could share?

What length RCA, power, ground wires did you use?

Where did you mount your ground wires?

Any other tips on running the wiring.

My vette is my daily driver so I'm just trying to plan it all out before I tear into it.

Thanks guys

I'll try to post a pic later. Basically, I used the 16' length of power cable that came with the wiring kit and cut it to suit once I had the vicinity of the amp mapped out.

Running the power wire was easy, once I got it through far enough to find it and pull it on through the footwell fusebox area. I removed the lower door sill cover (probably a better name for it, but you know what I mean) and just tucked the wire down on the floor where the floor pan meets the sill, capped it back and that was that. I grounded the amp on the metal beneath the waterfall. That worked just fine.

Pics would be great.

Yeah, I am considering an amp install kit, but they always offer 17 or 20' rca cables and it seems too long for a vette. And I just don't wanna have a big coil of it tucked away somewhere. I like neat and clean and right. ya know

Thanks for the help

I hear you. The RCA cables were too long, but I just left them as is - they're under the carpet and I really don't care about that stuff. But since you do, just run a tape measure from your HU, straight back over the center, up by the waterfall, then add 2'-3' to that for the total length and you will be golden. I'm thinking a standard 6' length is going to be a little tight, depending on how you orient the amp.
