I need to replace the bose system in my '92. I already have a new head unit, Pioneer deh-7400, and now I need speakers.
I'm thinking a pair of 6x9's and a pair of 4x6's. I don't need anything too special, just some quality speakers. I'd like to get both pairs for around $200. That number is a little flexible but that's my target.
Can anyone give me advice on which brand/model of speakers to get? Also can anyone point me to an on-line vendor who might be a little cheaper than my local Best Buy?
One final question: when I do the install can I simply cut the old speakers out and wire the new ones in?
It takes 6x9 rear and 5 1/4"-6 1/2" in the front depending on if you want to work a little at making them fit. Unit is good. http://www.tmselectronics.com/index.asp
has Boston RX speakers that would work great for $250 for all of them. They will work well on deck power and even better if you want to add an amp later.
To wire the speakers, run a wire to each from the deck. Should be fairly easy. Just need to remove both kick pannels and run them under the frame rail covers.
Its almost as big a PITA as rewiring. You'll need to find and cut the wires at the amps. Also, the wires are small. You should run 14 gauge wire, the car has 16 gauge. It should take 30 minutes extra to wire everything vs. not. Its just about 8 screws per side. (Door frame molding and the underdash pannels). Makes reversing the procedure easy also.
