I have a 1998 convertible. I currently have the factory stereo (tape deck w/ 12 disc changer in the trunk). My friend is selling me his Alpine CD player (single DIN) and I plan to install it in the car.
Not overly experienced with car stereo electronics. Any recommendations on what connectors/harness or dash kits I should be looking at? I'd like something that integrates as seamlessly as possible. Also, do I need any other connectors to ensure that my power antennae keeps working with the new CD player?
You'll need an adapter plate to mount it. All of the plastic $10 ones work fine, but to snazz up the car consider one from HERE. Pics in my car 12
You'll need an interface adapter. The ROEM-Vet1 is the most reliable. Get a GMRAP gizmo if you want to retain R.A.P. (radio stays on until door opens).
That set up looks awesome! I think I'm going to be going that route. One quick question, do the LEDs on the CD surround stay on all the time or only when your headlights are on? Just curious if you had to somehow wire it into the system or if they're just always on.
Great looking set though. Thanks so much for the advice.
It depends on how you wire it. They use 12v, so you can hook it up to any wire in the car that turns on/off... normal switched w/ignition (on if car running), HU remote wire (on if radio playing), headlights, running lights, whatever.
IIRC mine was wired to RAP controlled switched power (if radio CAN be on, then LEDs were on).
