Ok, so after doing some searches on the forum, I think i know what's going on here, but I want to double check with the experts.
A week ago I had a new head unit installed in my c6 (delco, without onstar). The installer said that he wouldn't be able to connect the new head to the current amp because there was a proprietary connector.
After the install, i noticed a massive drop in bass. I didn't know we had subwoofers in the doors, but after research I've seen that those run at 100W, and the head unit can only put out 50W/channel.
So It seems like what I need to do is get a new amp that will work with the new head. And while i'm at it, I might as well get new speakers too so the new amp can show it's power.
you need to find an installer who can hook it up correctly. you 100% can use stock amp and it will sound better then stock did. he also probally hacked up your wiring

I'll only use high end installers if I'm doing the work myself or with a buddy. Best Buy screwed me over pretty bad when I had them do a stereo in my GTO in 2006. I just had my C6 apart yesterday to install components, amps, and subwoofers. Spent 8 hours doing it and it sounds great. I also know that shortcuts weren't taken and wires were run properly.
thanks for the info all. I'll probably just wait till i upgrade speakers to fix it. It's annoying though..

Sadly, I don't trust myself to tear apart my car ... at least not without the help of someone who's done it before =)

See if one of the locals is willing to help you out. That's how I did it. I paid him $100 for his time and we spent 8 hours doing the install of two amps, component speakers, and subs in the rear.

He either hacked your install and/or he didn't connect the amp turn-on wire (blue/white). If he used the correct harness, your aftermarket radio would have still ran your OEM bose speakers.

He's apparently not aware that there are adapters to make use of that "proprietary" harness. You lost the use of the subs in the doors with his install. Hope he didn't hack up your harness too bad.

corvette isnt the only car to use this harness, many other gm's do as well
