I want know if this is worth the time and effort. I like the OEM Nav head unit and would like to keep it. So I want to add an amp for 6.5" component speakers in the door and an amp for a single 10" sub. Simple system just controlled by the original head unit. I've always changed out the HU so I don't know what the sound will be like. Anybody done this before? How's it sound? Should I expect any engine noise? I also have an EQ I can use to control this set up through.
If I do this, all I need will be the RCA harness set up off the back of the HU and the plates for the door speakers. I have everything else. Let me know if I'm missing something.
If you have the amps, wires, and speakers, then all you'll need is to make/buy plates for the doors and this harness
The C6 HU actually puts out a clean full spectrum signal that sounds pretty darn good when put through good amps and speakers. I used the oem Nav unit in my car with a 3-way active + sub setup for almost a year, sounded great
Just be aware that the stock radio will power up your amps as soon as you open a door, and play the chimes through the setup you install (if you use the front signal to the components). I used the rear signal to my door speakers since I had a C2R-GM24 sitting around that I used for my amp trigger and chimes. You could get a CM-1 to play chimes (less than $25) and use the rear signal (no chimes) if you don't like the chimes being amped.
Do I have make that harness or can I buy one already made? If I hook up my EQ to the rear RCAs, I can run one amp to doors and one amp to sub from the EQ. Will that take away the chimes completely? I really don't care about chimes but I don't want to start taking away things. Will have any problems without chimes?

I don't know of any stores that sell them, but I believe Pentavolvo has made some in the past. I can make one if I have the time, but won't have much in the near future.

Rears don't have chime signal in them.
If you use HU rear signal to doors and HU front signal to sub the LPF on your amp will cut out the chimes and you can use the front/rear fade as a bass gain adjustment

Car won't care at all if chimes don't play. Try it with front to front first, then if chimes are too loud you can swap RCA's at the amps to get rid of them.
Check the sticky on top of the audio section under C6 Audio FAQ. TheKokoman has a whole section devoted to your post. I too am running the factory nav head unit without any problems. After reading the FAQs, I ordered an adapter harness and speaker adapter plates from him and was able to add a JL Audio 500/5 amp, MB Quart speakers and a JL Audio Stealthwoofer, all running off the factory head unit.
