Am I wrong to be buying new speakers for my bose system...(rear. including speakers and amp enclosure).....to replace the defunct...speaker on my right rear....should I have upgraded to something else beside sticking with the stock bose system???????????????????
What are your thoughts...
Still on backorder from Corvette Central pair @ $199.00...
Please let me know????????????
thanks

Upgrading from stock is a little tough because Bose sort of designs things in such a way that you almost need to replace the entire system. If all you are doing is replacing the rears, save your $199 and you can have mine for $25 plus shipping. Anyone who charges $199 for those speakers should be shot, they look like they cost abour $5 to manufacture.
You need to replace everything to have it work. However, everything is pretty cheap. A deck is about $200 and speakers $75-$140 a pair. If you do your own installation, expect to have a much better system for about $400-500. The bose stuff was crap the day it was made. We were blown away by how poorly it was made and sounded when the vettes were new, especially because they charged an extra $1500 for it in the late 80s.

Re: Stock...Stock....Stock..... (92VetteforU)
What if you replace head unit & speakers? Can you put C5 stuff in a C4?
Thanks,
Lorna : )
Nope, Like 92TripleBlack said. :nonod:
Besides, why would you want to? The C5 Blose stuff sux too.
If you pull the stock Blose system from a C4 then you will have to either replace it with the same stock Blose components or go aftermarket. You have a little more leeway in a C5 as to mix up stock with aftermarket but still, if you are going to the trouble of replacing/redoing the sound system in your car, you may as well go all aftermarket components, you will have much better results. Unless of course, you want the car completely original for shows or to sell, that’s different. But you cannot mix C4 and C5 stereo components with each other.

I DO agree. Those speakers look like soemthing you buy from Radio Shack. Not worth a darn. And sound quality, terrible. I don't know why GM hipes up this BOSE poo poo.
