Default Is capacitor needed???

Ok, I have a Kenwood ddx690 with a Kenwood 1000 watt amp for a 10 jl audio corner sub. I have Bern noticing that my lights have been flickering a bit when the bass kicks. I am also looking into replacing my car battery. Should I use a capacitor for my set up. I have heard cons about capacitors draining batteries. I really need the communities help regarding my issues. Thank you in advance.

I would just up the alternator.
I had a cap in my truck for 10 years without battery issues. It didn't cure my dimming so I added a 200A alternator which eliminated it. That was 1000w from a/b amps with 600 to a JL 8w7.
The vette will have about 1900w when I get it back. I will add a 170 or larger Mechman alternator...no cap. My JL 10w3 is only getting 640w. The front 3-ways are getting 640w a side via Mosconi AS amps.

Do the "Big 3 Upgrade" first and see what happens.

Yup! Big 3 upgrade for sure first! It is relatively inexpensive, maybe $150 or so and may eliminate the problem entirely.

Yes, I too was going to suggest doing the Big 3 upgrade...however you can do it a lot less than $150. Google "Big 3" and you can find kits for $40-$50.

That one from SacCityCorvettes looks nice since it is pre-cut and pre-wired, but if you don't mind doing your own cutting/wiring, you can save money.
