Default replace 08 Nav to Kenwood without nav

I think I decided that im going to replace my OEM nav with the Kenwood DMX7705S when it comes out next month. I don't use nav on that car as I don't drive it much and when I use nav. I use my WAZE with my phone. my question is. for the droid auto and apple linking via USB on the back.. how is everyone routing their USB and where. do they just drill a hole and have the USB cable coming out from the unit in the open or are they installing like lets say a Dual USB Flush dash mount type thing. Id like to remove the cigarette lighter and see if I cant get a Dual USB to put in that so I don't need to drill anything.

Help would be great. Pictures would be great. Recommendations will be great.

I have time since this unit doesn't come out until march sometime.

I got one of these to install in place of the power port inside my center console glove box. https://www.ebay.com/itm/USB-HDMI-Ma...53.m2749.l2649

yea I was thinking something like that but in the place of my cig lighter. so its easily able to be plugged in as a driver or a passenger. minus the HDMI. I don't need that. Dual USB is what im looking for.

They make different configurations that you can get, I got the one with the HDMI so I could play videos from my iPhone.

I just replaced the OEM NAV unit in my '06 with a Kenwood DDX9704. Replaced the cig lighter style power port in the center console compartment with a dual USB port. Install was a breeze and the cable length was more than ample to run from the back of the HU to the console. Works flawlwessly.

Here's an Amazon link to what I bought:

Awesome thanks. I'm definitely doing it when that HU comes out next Month. I don't remember if I have a cig lighter in console. I think mine is in ash try in front. But I'll buy that adapter. And use it. With the 3.3ft is plenty I'll have to zip the usb cables to keep them clean. What place did u get it from and what dash insert did u use?

Happy to help out! Bought it from Amazon, along with a Pyle backup camera -
Amazon Amazon
(an easy install with no holes drilled), as well as some install accessories (Extra wire for power to the camera, a new crimper & crimps for the HU install, and other misc. stuff).

I received the HU as a Xmas gift from my family, so I can't tell you where they got it. If I had to venture a guess, I'd say Best Buy, but not certain.
For the dash kit & PAC unit, I went to Crutchfield. Dash kit is the standard Metra 95-3304 everybody recommends ( Link - https://www.crutchfield.com/p_120953...t.html?tp=3121 ). PAC unit is the RP5-GM11 ( https://www.crutchfield.com/p_541RP5...e.html?tp=3486 ). Also got a "Scratch & Dent" Sirius/XM receiver, but it was DOA so I didn't install.

Re: Install -- It's pretty straightforward, thanks to all the excellent guides available here on the forum. Wiring the PAC harness is the most tedious, but not difficult as long as you take your time and double-check your work against the wiring diagram as you go. I would recommend doing the harness work a day or two prior to the install, when your head is clear. There's a fair number of connections that need to be made, and I can see where you could make a mistake if you aren't focused on the work.

The actual install in the car is not difficult at all. Read through the forum guides a few times prior to become familiar with the process. I had an iPad with me to double check a couple things during the install. I had my son as a helper, which made things go easier than flying solo on the project. As for the USB port cable, I ran it from the back of the HU in the dash under the center console trim to the center console. Plenty of room and a clean fit.

Good luck & have fun!
