Thanks in advance to everyone for your help. I have been searching on here for some time and cannot quite find what I need. I have installed several stereo's over the years, so I have a basic understanding.
What I have:
08 Non Bose, with OnStar, no steering wheel controls
I am keeping stock speakers and amp
I would like to keep OnStar, but can ditch if needed
Adding
Pioneer AVH-2440NEX and backup camera. Got from Crutchfield with the PAC RP5-GM11 harness, prewired.
May add mono amp and sub later (ran RCA's and remote already while dash apart)
Since from Crutchfield it was plug and play save the Ground wire around the PAC module (recommended by PAC). I got everything hooked up and it all works. The issue is there is constant static no matter the mode, and if I plug a phone in for carplay or android auto it gets worse. This occurs even in accessory mode so it is not alternator whine.
I have checked the harness and it appears wired correctly.
I have tried several phones and USB wires and it is always worse with phone hooked up.
I was thinking grounding problem until some reading on here made me wonder if I have the harness, as the RP5-GM11 is sending amplified signal to the stock amp.
Do I have the wrong harness?
Is RP3-GM11 with rca outs the answer? Get ground loop isolators too?
Do I have another issue?
Thank you for your help. I wanted to ask all of you with experience before I tear more things apart or buy another harness.
I'm not sure what your problem is, but I will help you answer one of your questions. The RP5-GM11 is the right wiring interface for your car. The one thing you do have to consider though, is that the RP5 is compatible with amplified system and non-amplified systems depending on which slot you plug the wiring harness into. It has 2 slots and they are labeled. You have to use the slot intended for your system depending on if you have a factory amplifier or not.
You'll like that HU. I have the same one now in my C4 (new speakers also) & it's much better than the Sony I took out. With the Sony I thought I'd need to swap the speakers also, but once I put the Pioneer in, it sounded great.
