I want to add a line level input to my C5 so I can plug in my iPod. In looking at the wiring diagrams in the service manuals, it appears that I might be able to tap the audio L/R wiring from the CD changer. A jack and a switching arrangement should do the trick. Plug in iPod, put CD in changer and turn it to play, while the audio signal is actually coming from the iPod.
Someone has mentioned that the CD wiring is using a "semi-balanced" scheme though. Don't know if it is true or not. Looks like a shield and a seperate ground with just a regular unbalanced signal on the L R wires.
Just curious, are you going to have a switch on the LR to direct input from your ipod xor cd changer?
If you just put the ipod in parallel with the cd changer, then you could play them both at the same time, which could be entertaining. Is there a chance of damaging either the ipod or cd changer by feeding a signal into the output?
Looks like PIE electronics came up with what we need:
PIE Electronics AUX adapter GM10-AUX uses 10-pin connector for CD-changer in trunk/hatch if it has been pre-wired. A connector is available if it is not pre-wired.
You can also use the GM10 along with the following interface to connect to the Pioneer Universal XM Satellite Digital Tuner System (GEN-FM903XM) - plus the Pioneer XM of course:

I believe a similar connector is available for a Sony XM radio interface.
Huh? The GM10-AUX does NOT require you to have a CD Changer. I have a regular CD headunit and no CD changeer. Works fine for me. You need the CD changer cable ($70 from Logjam) but NOT the CD changer itself.
