Hi I recently had the following stereo components installed:
VetteNuts Double-DIN console with Kenwood deck
5-Channel amp
JL front components
Soon to arrive custom VetteNuts sub box
Anyways, the issues we are having is the Kenwood has a wire for the power antenna, but the antenna raises up whenever the stereo is on (not just FM/AM radio). I want the antenna down when listening to CarPlay or whatever.
Also, the shop cannot figure out how to get the delayed accessory to work. When I turn the car off, the stereo also turns off. I want it to remain on like the factory one did.
I just talked to Kenwood and they do NOT differentiate between radio and any other source. So the antenna is UP whenever the headunit is on. Stupid. Looks like I'll have to wire in a manual switch. Or pull the fuse. Or not connect the wire.
I haven't seen the delayed accessory function available on any aftermarket radio in any vehicle. I'm interested if it's possible so I'll be following this thread.
For the antenna I put in a wireless remote switch, total coast bout $25 bucks maybe?
i think I found it on here, if I can find it again, I’ll post a link for you. Took about 15 minutes. I use CarPlay and not radio so and thought. I don’t want to burn out the motor on it.
I don't think i've ever seen a head unit that only sends a signal with am/fm is on. it's typically when the head unit is on , it supplies power to that blue wire since it is basically for accessories to the stereo (antenna, amp, crossover, etc.)
Many aftermarket head units have two wires, Blue which is the remote turn on for amps or other accessories which is always on if the HU is on, and Blue/White which is the power antenna lead. This provides power to the antenna when you are using the tuner only. At least every Alpine I have ever owned has done this.
