Today I changed my old original car stereo , the one that accepts cassettes!! I bought a cheap Dual HU that can play MP3. No BT or NAV. This was just to see what a pita it was to do. I ordered the interface kit from Crutchfield...XSVI-2004. I soldered up the speaker wires The install didn't go badly, it took longer than I thought. I had to attach the wire plug to the gas cap door and that was the worst part ! I adjusted the pots and it sounds ok. To get more bass I had to increase the pots all the way. WHile I was in there I re-soldered the resistors on the HVAC board and it now works just fine. I gained a lot of knowledge from the short time I've been on this forum and thank all the ppl who took the time to post their results and experiences.
So far I really like this car. It's far more comfortable than I thought once I get in it . Now it's a toss up keep the Corvette or the SLK55? Decisions, decisions.
You're correct about no pics, my bad ! I didn't take any pics of removing the old radio since there's lots of those around. I do have a couple pics of the final installation and it all works as advertised ! I hope this meets with your approcal .
I like the seupp but it's a cheap unt. I'll probably upgrade to something much better in 6 months or less.
I see where others have gone with a double DIN unit that I think looks real nice. I don't know what's all involved in doing a double DIN in a C5, my experience is with the C6, from what I've read it sounds like a bit of a chore to do it but it sure looks nice when it's done, plus it gives you much more features you can't necessarily find in a single DIN system. Here's a photo I came across showing a double DIN install.
There are other surrounds abailable cheaper cheaper but the texture is not the same but most say it’s acceptable I’m not sure if I’ll go double din yet I may look at a 1 din but with the flip face

Yes I'm aware of that but I think the screen can be tilted forward to allow more air flow. I may just get another 1 din that has BT for handsfree phone.
The 2 din units looks great and make the inside look up to date. I'm not sure how long I'll keep the C5 but after a year or so I may upgrade to 2 din. I want to drive it more and see how I like it. SO far I enjoy it very much. It's much easier to work on than my SLK.

Well that's understandable, if you're not sure if you're going to keep the car, it would be hard to justify the work and expense to do it.
