I have a 2012 base non bose radio /cd with steering wheel controls.. Can I replace it with a factory navigation unit? What will I run into? Will the wiring harness be the same. I prefer to stay OEM and not go aftermarket. I know about the vin / theft system and that the factory units are outdated. Thanks for any info
I suggest you don't even bother with a factory Nav system, they're so outdated it's not worth it, you'd be much better off with a good aftermarket system.

Thanks for the replies. As much as I prefer OEM I guess you have changed my mind. I just want a CD, navigation and radio with steering wheel controls. I don't want a high end system. Any suggestions?
I have a 2012 GS, and I have to agree with the comments about the dated factory head unit. Even by 2012 standards the factory nav unit was embarrassingly dated and difficult to use. Upgrading to an aftermarket head unit is a must-do mod in my opinion and was one of the first things I did when I got the car. My only suggestion is don't go too cheap, it is a Corvette after all. Something with a capacitive touch screen looks real nice and any mid level model will give you all the features you need plus improve the overall sound quality of the stock speaker system.

What should I figure on spending? Any suggestions? I'm in a small town with no club members to ask and I'm a little lost.

If you don't mind a model that's a couple years old, you can still find a new Pioneer 8400 NEX Nav system for around $650, this is about half the price it was when it came out which was $1200 It was their top of the line model. Or you can find last years model the 8500 NEX for around $850, there again it was $1200 originally. Their latest model is the 8600 NEX which is $1200. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_130AVW...-W8600NEX.html There hasn't been a lot of changes between the three that I'm aware of, so either one would be a good system. Then to connect it to the car you'll need an interface, this is the most popular one used.https://www.crutchfield.com/p_541RP5...Interface.html Then you'll need one of these. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_120953...-Dash-Kit.html And then if you also want Sirius XM sat radio you'll need one of these. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_220SXV...0V1-Tuner.html Then finally while you're at it I suggest you also add a back up camera to the system. Here's a How To that'll give you an idea about what's involved in doing this, if you're not sure if you can handle it, I'd suggest you talk to a professional installer. https://www.corvetteforum.com/how-to...igation-368176

A lot depends on what features are a must have for you. Do you want built in navigation or are you ok with using navigation through Apple CarPlay and/or Android Auto? Do you want wireless CarPlay and Android Auto or are you ok with connecting your phone via cable? If you don't need or want built in navigation or wireless Apple and Android, then I would look to get a deal on a model that's about a year or two old. Kenwood DDX9705s currently $400 from a seller on Amazon or the Kenwood DDX9905s for $480 on Amazon also, are 2 great head unit's that sound great and have a great capacitive touch screen display. If you want navigation and wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, then the price goes up a little for different models with those added features.
Crutchfield is great but they only sell the newest models and are very limited by the manufacturers in their pricing. So if you are looking for a good deal, you are better off shopping around. The good thing about Crutchfield is that they will connect the wires from the head unit to the interface wiring harness for a small fee if you don't want to do it yourself. But still that's not a big deal and easy to do yourself. Crutchfield also has top notch customer service which is also something to consider, but like I said, you will be limited to the newest models for the most part and pricing will reflect that.
