I'm looking to upgrade the audio system on my '2008 Z06. It has the Bose system. I have already replaced the factory nav/HU with a Sony, but the speakers are garbage. I had a 2013 base before this and the non-bose speakers were actually better.
That said, I've been doing a lot of reading on the matter, but most threads are very old. What is the recommended setup these days? Do these cars have a tweeter? It looks like there is a speaker grille around the memory seating buttons, but most videos/articles that I've seen don't mention anything about the tweeter.
Crutchfield shows some component speaker options, but says that the tweeters are "surface mount". I'd prefer to keep the OEM look if possible.
Any links to more recent install threads would be great.
Thanks! I think I'd start by replacing the mid/tweeter first as I've read good results, and build from there. Certainly as everyone else reports, the stock system is very flat.
I haven't seen many mentions/instructions on replacing the mid/tweeter specifically if it would require any custom fabrication, or harnesses. I did see a mention for a Metra 72-4568, but also I saw a mention of a multi-position connector behind the door to the factory speakers. I may end up pulling off the door card to scope it out, but I'd prefer to do it once when I have the proper components in hand.
If the mid/tweeter swap isn't sufficient, I'd likely go for the full deal for doors + rears + amp, maybe a sub. I'm not super picky, and frankly I generally like Bose consumer stuff, but I'm really disappointed by this setup.
Awesome! Thanks for the tip. Is there anything required regarding mounting brackets or wiring to incorporate these 3.5" speakers? Is that what the Metra 72-4568 is for?
I usually just snip off the connector and solder my own wire as needed. Foam tape or dynamat to put around the speaker would be fine. No special brackets are needed.
