Has anyone ever tried replacing their side mirrors with a camera and used a small display on the dash for viewing?
I was just thinking of streamlining the looks and for something different. The Honda E prototype has it.
I'd try retrofitting a bird's eye 3d surround camera before attempting something this extravagant
That would take multiple cameras and a processor that knows where the cameras are, where they are looking and details about their parameters to properly transform the camera views to a birds-eye view.

This can be achieved with the PAC GM1A-RST in conjunction with the PAC VS41, and an aftermarket head unit. The VS41 has inputs for four cameras (front, rear and two side cameras) The side cameras are triggered to come on with a connection from the VS41 to the turn signal circuits, that when the turn signal is activated it triggers the head unit to display that specific camera. I considered adding cameras to my side mirrors, but couldn't really think of a way to do them that would look good, or butcher up the mirrors which I don't want to do, so currently I'm just running the front and rear cameras.

They sell retrofit kits that can do this and plug into an aftermarket HU via HDMI

I'ld be interested in a link if you have one. The units in madsonp's post I think just switch among 4 cameras. Not create a birdseye surround view. Could be wrong
