Both of my bottom door speakers are blown. In trying to get information about how to replace them, I see some posts that mention 10 inch speakers and some that mention 8. What size are they actually? I also see that the original Bose speakers have attached amplifiers and going with any other type speaker makes the replacement complicated. I am satisfied just to replace with OEM speakers, but when I look online to order them, I see that they do not say if they are 10 or 8 inch. Also, are all of the OEM speakers sold online the same, or are there Bose and non-Bose? I have Bose. I don't want to order the speakers, remove the door panel, and find out the speakers are the wrong size. Any advice would be much appreciated.
It's a 2012. It is the Bose system. I have run across another possible issue since I posted the first message. Somewhere in the forum there was a post that says the tweeter in the door is 4 ohms, while the woofer is 1 ohm. I was considering going with an aftermarket woofer, as again, somewhere in the forum someone talks about how the factory speaker cones are cheap and made of paper which is why they blow. However, an aftermarket woofer that I found (in fact all of the aftermarket woofers that I have found so far), are 4 ohm. If the 2012 Corvette actually has a 1 ohm woofer, replacing it with a 4 ohm woofer will cut the output by 75%. Is it actually a 1 ohm woofer in the 2012? If so I guess I'll go with the OEM speaker and just not turn it up too loud.
It is indeed a 10" 1ohm woofer. You can replace it with a shallow mount dual 4ohm and add some dynamat to help the bass response. Or like you said, going the safe route and replacing it with an oem speaker. There are a few you YouTube videos on repairing the factory speaker. I have a couple that I took out of my car when I upgraded if you're interested...
Thanks! You really cut to the chase. Elsewhere in the forum someone recommended the Kicker speakers, which look good to me. I was tempted to go that route until I found out about the 1 ohm/4 ohm issue. And I don't remember what year Corvette they had, just that it was a C6. Do you think I can get enough "ooomph" out of a 4 ohm woofer? Seems to me the tweeter will be very loud by comparison since it is 4 ohm.
FWIW, Crutchfield has quite a few 10" shallow woofers, many of which are only 2 ohm, but they are much more expensive. There is even a Rockford Fosgate 1 ohm, if you don't mind spending almost $500 on it
The MB sounded nice. They were dual 4 ohm. So it put a 2 ohm load on rhe amp. It sounded very nice, but I did add Dynamat at the same time. I ran like that for a few months before I added the amp and finished up the system.

there are actually a few dual 2 ohm options on the site. This will give you the 1 ohm that you need. The Kicker-48CWRT102 for example are at $199 each and should fit using a

never mind the Kicker, I just looked up the specs on the mfg website and do not recommend those for a door application. You want to find a speaker with a Qts rating close to .7 or higher.
My opinion, just play it safe and get oem replacement door woofers. But change to an aftermarket 3.5" speaker while you have the door panel off. It helps clear up some of the muddiness of inherent in the stock system. RockAuto is a good place to get the oem speakers.
are you sure its actually blown? i know on c7's the black cone separates from the basket making it sound like its blown. a little epoxy and time, fixed for $6
I don’t know anything about replacing speakers, but the hardest part might be putting the door panel back on. There are many posts on how to do this which will save you some aggravation.

he has the tweeter in the dash, so it's better than the earlier models.

I mentioned this in an earlier post, but the picture helps!

I have a 2012 with the Bose. The sound was extremely muddy. Replacing the 3.5" door speakers does help. Currently, I have a complete aftermarket system so no more Bose for me.
