Good morning all. I have been away from the site for a few years since selling my C5 and am back again after purchasing a C6. Used to be luv2fly but had to make a new user name. I appreciate all the tips and advise given on this site and have been doing a lot of searching. Today I am looking for your ideas on a good audio upgrade. I have a 2012 GS with 2LT Bose 9 speaker. 2 in each door. 3 on dash and 2 in back. Prior owner installed a Kenwood DMX7706S which seems decent. Only speakers working now are the 2 in the rear. What would you recommend for a full system upgrade? Preferably from those that have done one. Please include speaker and amp models and sizes plus where you mounted your amp. I am okay spending around 3k for good speakers, amps and wiring. Budget is flexible. I listen to everything but do not like the audio to be too bright if you know what I mean. Solid balanced bass is a must. If mid bass speakers in the doors won't hit well enough I can put a sub in back but need to leave room for the top to be stowed as well. Thanks everyone.
Lots of sub options that will accommodate the targa top. Sub Thump sells a couple pre made ones. I have 2 sub boxes, not from Sub Thump. One holds a shallow sub and fits the targa in the back. But since I never take the targa top off, I built another box that holds a JL Audio 10W6v3. I also went with a Pioneer head unit, Focal KRX2's in the doors, Morel 5.25" in the rear and a 5 channel Morel amp to power everything. Some will argue to go with larger door woofers for mid bass, and they are probably correct, but I am happy and pleased with my overall system and sound. Pics below.
Fred is right, you should go with larger speakers, and he also likely happy with what he has, lol
I think you need to take inventory first. All the front speakers not working means to me something isn't right. Possibly the previous owner had an amplier in the car and removed it, but didn't want to pull the radio to hook the factory speaker wires back up. Check to see if you actually even HAVE speakers in the doors, shine a bright light in there and see if they're even in there. If you verify there's speakers in there, start looking for wiring.

Yeah I am, thanks FAUEE. I have owned a lot of cars and lots of different sound systems. Currently have 5 cars. There is no perfect sound system in a car, or at least I haven't found it. The C6 environment is exceptionally harsh because of road noise, exhaust noise, and los of window down driving in my case. But for me, the upgrades I made, make my C6 sound system one of the more enjoyable systems I have had and a nice improvement over what the stock system had to offer.

If you are not getting sound from some of your speakers, check the wiring harness interface that was used to install the new head unit. I would suspect that is where your problem is. Either plugs are not fully pushed in or have a weak connection, or you may need to replace the interface. If the interface needs replacing, you can purchase and replace with the same model so you can replace the interface module without having to redo any wiring.
