You don't remove the outer door skin. First you take off the speaker grill, and then you take off the interior door panel. There are around 10 screws to do that. You may have a rain guard underneath the door panel, I don't have one, so I don't know how to remove that. Next you will have to take off another panel, there are 8 (I think) 8 mm bolt/screws. This panel provides support to the rest of the door and holds stuff for the power window in place. There will be wires attached to plastic holders on the outside of it. Inside the door you will have rods for the lock and door latch attached to it. You can choose to leave it attached or undo them and remove the entire panel. It is easier to work in the door if the panel is removed, but it isn't that big of a deal. I left them attached when I did my install.
The speaker pods are held on with 4 screws, just unscrew them. There will be 4 wires (I believe) coming out of the box with a plug on it, undo this and the pod will slide right out of there. You will want to do all of this with your power window up.
I like the front speakers. I am going to get some acoustical fiberglass and put in the front boxes to see if that improves the sound at all. Of course you know the front boxes were designed scientifically ;)
You may want to check out the shallow mount 6 1/2" available from Infinity. That would save a lot of headaches with mounting them.
(The forum doesn't seem to like these URL's, you will have to copy and paste them)

I would love to hear the difference between my speakers and the 3 Way 6.5" Kappa as well.

I think that I got a pretty good bang for the buck with my stereo. However, there are things that I would do differently now that I know more. At the time that I bought the head unit dealers were having a lot of problems getting in Kenwood stock and there were talks of them filing for chapter 11. Now this doesn't seem to be the case. I would really like a Music Keg to store my music on. The CD based MP3 player is definitely nice but it can't compare to a hard drive based system.
I can take pictures of the door next weekend since the panel is off the driver side door right now, but it is sitting at my parents place right now.
If you have any questions feel free to fire away.
