I am getting ready to dump the Bose gold system in my '91 and have a few question regarding the install. I am ditching the entire Bose system, but I'm not going crazy (at least yet) with my new system. I'm planning on simply installing a new head unit and new speakers (5.25" fronts/6x9 rears). I might possibly install an amp or subs down the road, but for now I'm sticking with the HU/speakers. I'm fairly confident I'll be able to get the speakers and the new HU fitted, but my question regards wiring. In the past when I've installed stereos in cars I've simply spliced an aftermarket wiring harness onto the new head unit and plugged it into the factory wiring harness. I'm assuming though that this isn't going to be the case with the Bose system. I know I have to run new speaker wire to the new speakers as Bose stuff isn't compatible, but can I still use some type of wire harness or am I best off just finding the wires I need and splicing? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks,
You're definately going to need to pick up a wiring harness. The Bose in our Vettes are probably different from anything else you've seen (I know it was for me). The head unit is just a controller (like a home stereo radio receiver or CD Player) the "radio receiver" is located under the passenger side hush panel along with the antenna. So you'll have to run wires from the receiver under the dash to your new head unit...the rest is normal.
