Just inherited an I pod 15 gig. I dont have any cords or chargers. What do i need. how can i download music to it? I dont have to buy the songs do I?
How has every one been using it in the vette? Im not sure if the FM transmitter will be good.
Congrats. You'll love it. I've had the 5 gig model for a while now. As for the songs, you can download any regular old music file onto it. It will come with software that is pretty easy to use. It is basically a click and drag type program.
There are two ways to use it in the Vette. First is to use a tape deck converter that plugs into the iPod and the tape deck. It will bring the sound in the car, but you will lose some of the quality. I have not heard it, so I can't say how much.
The Second option is to use a auxillary input. The stock deck does not have an RCA input, so this is only an option for an aftermarket deck. I have an Alpine HU that I use and it is a digital transfer, so it is as clear as the source song. i.e. If you have a CD quality wave file on the iPod, it will play near CD quality through a digital aux input.
Extreme Mac also makes a Firewire car charger for the ipod that is white. It goes on eBay for $15ish. The iPod holds charge for a long time, but it will die after a week or two, regardless of use.
I have a 98 with stock, i think i want to go witht the fm transmitter now until i go with my in dash dvd in a couple of months. But i dont have the software or anything. I guess ill go to the mac store and see what they have

Post your email and I will send you a method to get around purchasing the software.
Go to Best Buy...Belkin makes a cigarette lighter to Ipod converter so you can keep it powered up...it works for the newest third gen Ipod's, not sure if it works for the originals.
Oh yeah, I originally used one of the FM transmitters, but it wasn't powerful enough and hardwired it into my aftermarket Pioneer head unit. I drive a Z-06 with the antenna in the back. Sound is much, much better hardwired into an aux input.
