Default CD Changer wiring question

I am getting ready to install an Alpine cd changer, but I have a question on the wiring. It looks like the power wire going to the cd changer harness is the yellow wire which is constant on. Is this correct in that the cd changer is always on, or only "constant on" when the radio is on? Does this wire connect to the radio power and therefore is constant on when the radio is on, or is it always on, even when the radio is off? Thanks, Tom

On my Blaupunkt, the power wire (should have a fuse) should be connected to the yellow constant wire. This prevents the CD changer from resetting itself every time you turn the car off. That way it doesn't have to read-read the CDs and will remember what song you left off at. The connector running to the HU is what tells it to cycle the CDs

Does the always on run down any battery, or is it mainly just for memory? Does the light on your changer go out?
