Default Quick Box Building Question

I currently do not have a connector plate for the speakers, would it be ok to drill a small hole for the wires to pass through.

Thanks

For a sealed box -- I've heard the answer is no.... I too am building a custom box and need to route some wires. My plan is to drill holes for the + & -, screw a copper threaded rod through them (with clear silicone caulk) , then secure it on both sides with a copper washers and nuts. Then, I'll connect the wire to the two sides.

Actually, you can drill a small hole to fit the wires through as long as you caulk up the hole afterwards. You could also do it the way explained in the above post. The point is, as long as you caulk up any hole you make you will be fine. If you do plan to use a connector plate make sure you caulk up the inside of it.

You are better off making your own connectors or drilling the hole. Most terminal plates are lousy. There are a few real beefy ones out there. Here is a pic of using bolts for speaker teminals and drilling the holes.

This is the back of a box that has 4 15's in it. The speaker wires come out the back through holes and siliconed and then go to a distribution block I mades using the bolt through technique. I really like to do the bolt through...it works very well.

I just drilled a hole and used this M1 Caulking we use at work. (I manage a roofing company and this stuff has delaminated plywood its so strong).
So the hole is sealed up well.
