I'm looking to upgrade the side door speakers in my c5 with some sort of component set (woofer, tweet, and crossover), as well as add some bass in the back with a mild subwoofer & amp.
I am looking for advice on a decent priced (under $200) 6 1/2" component set that performs well, as well as advice on a subwoofer/amplifier that will give the car some bass, but not form rattles in the car over time? (Additional $300-400 in equipment without box)`
I am dreaming in thinking that having a subwoofer can be done without rattles? I am looking for a mild bass system here.. not something to impress the neighbors two streets down, but I do want to have the sound crisp.
there's lots of combinations, drop me an e-mail and i'll give you some suggestions, there's lots of options. i'm installing my system friday (subs, headunit, components in the doors, full range rears, after i hear it i'll let you know if it can be done with out rattling. I've got 2 12" aluminum dvc subs from audiobahn at 1000 watt rms. and i'll be pushing about 800 to each. if i can do it so can you.
Lucky...do you still have the stock source unit? If so you are going to want to dump that for something aftermarket. Especially if you want to change out the door speakers. You mention solid midbass...the C5 has massive amount of room in the doors for speakers. You can easily fit a three way system in your front door. It should not be difficult to keep the system to a minum of rattles. As far as speakers go you really should try to hit a few different places and listen to what they have. Bring your own cd and listen to the same songs. the speakers will sound different in your car but you can get a good idea of how they will sound.
Yes you can use the stock headunit but highly unrecommended. Stock head unit is Bose and does not work the same as a standard factory radio. You can get adaptors to make it work but you are much better off for lack of problems and better sound quality to buy an aftermarket radio.
Danydoo....you mention as many speakers as you want but subs only...that is not correct. You can wire mids and highs in series if you like also or you can lets say a three way setup. An 8" 4" and tweet....all four ohm. Wire them through a passive corssover and your amp will see a four ohm load. Provided that the 8 4 or tweet never play the same frequency at the same time.
Danny...amps in front ..low voltage out of head unit. No amps in rear. There are interfaces made for Bose products. They do work. They do not work nearly as well as an aftermarket radio will. MUCH better performance out a quality aftermarket radio than any factory radio. 15 years in the business...I think I have worked on more than a few Bose cars.
Oh I agree the stock radio will work but not nearly as good as an aftermarket radio. As for for me working up front and not knowing about frequencys or ohms law you are mistaken. I have been an INSTALLER first and formost for 15 years. I have been factory trained by every major manufacture out there. Also an IASCA certified judge. All salesman know how to build stuff like this.
First of all you need amps for mids and highs not just subs. Second there are two amps not three. The one in the middle is a third octave EQ...know what one of those are? You need an RTA to tune the car...which I have one. Every sales person needs an RTA. Ploppin the stuff down? The amps are sitting on 3/4 buffed plexi that I machined in the exact shape of the amps just .5" larger. The plexi is then attached to .75" aluminum mounts that my friend machined (I was short on time..thanks Matt) then had chrome plated. Ofcourse all that stuff just plops in. Did I mention that the enclosure is made out of carbon fiber that I hand laid myself? We sales people have to stay up with these things. Also like Jays car the top still fits in the car. All in all I guess plopping things down must work for some reason. I have 4 best of show trophys out of 5 shows. Stinger thought it was good enough to have it on display in Daytona during Spring Break Nationals and 5 magazines have shot it. Car Audio and Mobile Enternaiment are both interested in shooting the car once I finish it. More work is on the way. Oh also Phoenix Gold...they rock. I have used 99% of the equipment out there and PG can hold their own all day. I guess I better get back to the sales floor.
You know I almost forgot...I built all this in my 250,000.00 shop. But hey what would I know how to do with all that tooling? I just sell stuff...want to come over and show me? I am always open to visits from fellow members especially if they can teach me something.
verry nice...rice....you could have done a better job than just ploppin all that stuff down right?blewvettes stuff is proper..those two pictures show the difference between an installer and a salesman....why do you need 3 amps when you only have one subwoofer?what dont i see?im not a p/g fan for the $ they dont produce half as well as the compitition....although your setup compands some level of respect cause its in vette and i will say its nice to see different ideas...verry nice
Dude you're an idiot, I have not seen one thing you've posted so far that is even remotely close to truth.
