Just had the XM Commander installed in my 04 Z06. The face plate went in behind the ashtray door. Installer took out the ash tray & the door covers the unit when closed. Took the remote & with velcro attached it right near the traction button. The antenna fits on the dash center right next to windshield. Sounds great using the modulator,
you have to host it somewhere on a webserver... not your computer.. then use the img tags... or, you can e-mail it to me and i'll not only look at it, i'll host it for ya and put it up in this thread.
violetintex - hotmail - com
that's my e-mail, oh so cleverly disguised so the webspider spam bots don't get it (hopefully). lol
Satellite radio is the last "toy" I need and the location where you installed it sounds like the setup I'd be interested in. Would you mind sending me pics of your install?? Mike903L@aol.com
Thanks in adavance.....
Take care....be safe!
SAVE THE WAVE..
Not sure how to post pictures here but can email directly to you. The commander sounds great, the installer set it up for me but he put it on 88.3 & the FM antenna plugs directly in line also. Modulator comes built in with this unit.
steve, i tried to e-mail you but the earthlink spam thingy kicked back my hotmail i guess. if someone else gets the pictures, host 'em.. or let me know and i'll do it.
What did you do with the cig lighter. I use mine for radar and cell phone. Doyou get dropouts with the antenna inside the windshield. Do you have pics? I have a commandder sitting on the table to install. Thanks.
Chuck,
Cig lighter still there & operational. Removed the ash tray & the commander display fits right over where the ash tray was held with double sided tape. Place the display high up in the ash tray area so as the cover still closes. Had the installer do it, he had to remove the console & pull out the radio for the install & then everything went back together nicely, he put the tuner under/in the dash. No dropouts except the usual such as in the garage or under an over pass. Works great. Also instead of using velcro for the remote it fits nicely with the bottom end sitting at the front of the console lid in the indent. You don't need the remote but it is easier as the display buttons are small.
Could you please email the pix of this install to me also? I'm interested in adding it to my 04 Vert. Email to d.greer2@verizon.net or dgreer@aot.com. Thanks
If you want a hard wired signal instead of fm modulation, and you have an alpine HU w/cd changer, I believe you can add aa ALP/ai-aux unit inline between the changer and HU. Plug the commander into this and it sends signal to hu over same wire as cd changer. If commander is generating a signal, any signal from the changer is automatically defeated.

Im getting a huge amount of dropouts on my XM installed like you did.
I think I may have to use an external antennae mounted above my rear window.
Also, when I run the AM part of the radio, I get radio noise I never had before, do you hear this too? Mine Im sure is due to the antenna relay for the XM.
I get so many dropouts here, I live on a rural island I may have to get rid of the unit. Cant use it, in the city its fine. MY wifes RV has sirius and we get no dropouts but sirius is a direct connect to the satelite. the drawback on sirius is the ugly antenna and it doesnt fit in the ashtray.
Any comments? Ideas? Thanks
Chuck
