Default Head Unit Recommendation...

Hi,

I've just bought a new head unit for my vette, and I've got to recommend it. It's called the Kenwood DDX7025, and it's a double din widescreen DVD player with touch sensitive screen.

This does mean that you will need to "remodel" your dash, but the end effect is awesome. Once I've finished the install, I'll post pix.

Check out the unit, though - I've never seen a better one!

I just bought a HU today. I looked at double dins, but I decided I didnt want to modify the surround - too much work. You can go with a single din unit and thats not hard - look at the alpine one that does pulse feedback - thats the one to get!

I ended up buying a standard alpine deck - forget the model @ but its the one with 6 channel time delay.

My plans for the daskboard are:

Remove the ash-tray and door (I don't smoke, and no-one is allowed to smoke in my Vette).

Relocate the Climate Control unit to about 2 inches lower than it's standard position.

Remove cross bars on the Dash Panel.

Position HU approx where the Delco unit was and rebuild the dash using Glass-Fibre. Once that is done, I'll get it repainted. Can't decide whether to paint it Torch Red or Black.... (car is Torch Red)...?

I currently use the Soundgate Harness, and I'm progressively going through and replacing all my components.

I'll be using "FOCAL" speakers, as I used them in my previous car, and they're about the best I've ever heard. I can't recommend them enough.

I'll also be using "MAC AUDIO" (dunno if these are available in the US) Amplifiers. These are Chrome and light up Blue, so all my LEDS will be swapped for Blue ones too.

My Sub is a 15" Lightning Audio 1500 Watt Sub, which will be fitted to a custom Box which sits in the big well at the back of the trunk, and also fits under the T-Top when it is in the trunk.

Finally, I will also be fittinng a games console (PS2), but this will be a temporary feature for now. I work in Video Games (I'm a producer for Electronic Arts), so I'll be installing a PS3 or X-Box 2 as soon as either is available (X-Box 2 first).

As for my selection of Head Unit - I saw this unit when it initially arrived, and it totally brought to mind the look of the C6 dashboard. I had an Alpine CVA-1003R Head unit in there already, but I really wanted the "factory look" for my vette.

With this in mind, the DDX7025 fit the bill. When I then looked at the capabilities of the system, it is just an AWESOME piece of kit. Touch Screen is great, and the amount of control available is just wonderful.

Once I have fitted it all up, I intend to fit the nav unit too. I'm in love with this head unit!! Really, I can't recommend it enough!!!
