Here are my thoughts. In the door(C4) i'm putting Infinity 6 1/2'' and in the rears 8'' subs. If I put another set of speakers in the dash, how will this affect the sound stage. Good or bad. My plan is to power the fronts with deck power and the subs with my Carver amp. Run the dash to front and the doors to rear and then use sensitivity dial from amp to dial in the subs.
Any thoughts
Thanks
I run all my highs and midrange in the dash, midbass in the doors and bass out back. I like the sound personally. The stage is high, forward and centered. Doors seem to be the tried and true way to do it, but I like to think outside the box.
dash speakers can raise your soundstage (a good thing) but IMO you will want them at a lower volume than your main front speakers or not at all. They can also screw up your sound since the distance between your door speakers and the dash speakers to your ears are not of equal length. There are cures to this (delay circuits) but at a high cost to get it just right.
Mudd's case is a little different since his speakers are 3-ways and that is better than your situation. Still, it is best to have all front speakers close to each other.
I was under the impression you wanted to add more highs, if that's the case, yes, it will make the soundstage cluttered and confused.
That's where crossovers come into play.
Some frequencies, due to their very nature, are faster than others, so they arrive at your ear quicker. The advantage to what muddpile did is move the faster frequencies farther away, and the slower ones closer. They still meet at about the same time.
frequencies are funny things... you can fake them out like you would not beleive...
