Default OEM CD Changer Harness...Need Help!!

Ok I have the interior gutted and am getting rid of the stock CD Changer and am in the process of pulling the wiring harness that runs to the front of the car.

Here's my problem...
the harness seems to be have two "sets" of wires to it.....
I have it completely unraveled and untaped it to the front of the car.
One "set" is completely wrapped in electrical tape and I have both ends free.

The other "set" consists of three wires, orange, green and black with white stripe. These seem to run into the fuse block under the passenger side dash. It may run behind it and end elsewhere but it's a total PIA to remove the entire housing under the dash.

I was wondering if these three wires only represent Power, Switced Accessory Power and Ground? In which case I could cut and cap each one without having to remove the ECM and everything under the passenger side dash.

Does anyone know for certain? I want to give a perfectly useable harness to the person that buys it so I don't want to cut until I know.

THX!

I think I know what you're talking about. The 3 wire set you speak of shoul have a connector that you can just unplug without cutting wires. I had to look had for the plug, but mine was under the passenger carpet near the kickboard, and wrapped to another wire with white tape. Take a good look. Yo can unplug and it won't affect the rest of the radio.

One connector is taped to the harness, the other connector is clipped to the metal bracket below and to the right of the fuse box. You might have to remove the little clip holding it onto the metal bracket, as the connector is facing away from you.

The one set of wires that's unplugged was connected to a bracket under the kick panel. I pulled the connector and it came off clean. The other one seems to run under the fuse block that's to the right of the Computer but I can't see an end to it.

What's weird is that on the end that plugs into the changer there are 7 wires, four of which cleanly end where I already unplugged them. The other three are the ones that run under the fuse block that I can't see the end to. I would have thought it was just the piece that unplugs clean.

I'll take some pics tomorrow and if you guys are still willing to deal with a pain in the butt I'd like to have someone post them or I can email for more advice.

One thought if you have removed yours...do you remember having to cut any wires?

I do thank you for your advice.

THX!

Both sets of wires just unplug. The one is hard to find. It's closer to the right side, under a metal bracket. Kinda hard to see.

if your car is a 97 or 98.... AND it came with the CD changer from the factory.... then the 3 wire harness that you are talking about IS hard wired to the fuse panel.

I know this because when I installed the factory CD changer in my 98 ( like all 97 and 98's) it didn't have the 3 wire plug!

I see you have a '99 - so you got the connector unhooked between the computer and the fuse box? If so, the next connector is off to the side, under the carpet. the end is not next to the fuse box. Remove the passenger side plastic trim and pull the carpet back to show the wires running from the rear. The second connector is wrapped up in that group of wires. Should be about halfway between the front of the passenger door opening and the fuse box panel.

BSieg....actually I have the one under the carpet unhooked, but the one you mentioned between the COmputer and Fuse Block must be the one.

Thanks to everyone for your insight. I didn't get a chance to work on it today...sounds like I just have to keep plugging away until I get to the end of that harness.

Thank God I didn't cut anything.

You'll find it - it's a black bracket between the computer and the fuse panel, all the way at the bottom of the opening, and the wires are connected to its side, the plug facing towards the front of the car. You'll probably have to remove the little plastic pin that holds the wires to the bracket so you can separate them. If you need a pic of the location, let me know!
