Default two 8's or one 10?

I am torn between getting one 10 in the center compartment or 2 8's behind the seats. I have a 99 convertable. I really would rather the tight bass of an 10 or 8's over the looser deeper bass from a 12.

What do you guys think? Anyone want to convince me to get one or the other?

Thanks in advance

Get a 12. A 12 does *NOT* sound "looser" than an 8. It's a myth propogated by inferior quality speakers and bad installs.

A 12 will give you greater SPL for your buck, and it will go lower, as well. Grab a nice quality one, (Image Dynamics, JL, whatever.) and enjoy.

I personally, would never go with anything other than a 12 again... (Unless I don't have the room, of course.)

Hey Kale, thanks for the input, I was not aware that this was a myth... hmmm

but then i guess the question should be two 8's behind the seats. The enlosure will isolate the cabin from the trunk. (there should also be some advantages to this when the top is down) and two 8's should push more air then a single 12... right? or would i still be better off with just a single twelve in the center compartment?

I'm just looking for what would be better for the convertable.

Thanks

edit: i am considering 8's because of the space restrictions of putting them between the top (when it's donw) and the lip behind the waterfall

Two eights are about equivelant to a 10. A single 12 should kill a pair of 8s easily.

I believe quite a few forum members run 12s in a "Stealthbox-like" enclosure in their C5s.

Funny, this same question was asked out on the 350z forum today:

Most of these guys are pretty clueless though.

Looks like i'll be going with a 12 then. I guess I was overestemating the advantages of putting the subs in front of the convertable top.

Thank you Kale
