Not really. Both companies have been on a downward spiral since the mid 90's in both qualitiy and innovation. In 95, I would of killed for a Phoenix Gold amp, now, id not use one for a door stop. I used to have some Soundstream Subwoofers about the same time period when they were working with Krell audio (mainly home audiophile insanely expensive top end stuff). Their subwoofers were top notch back then. I had one of their infinate baffle subwoofers mounted on the firewall of a Fiat I had. It was an absolutely amazing speaker for its time. Id still buy one if I could find one. I beleive both companies got bought out by someone, maybe someone can chime in and say who. But their stuff has just gone to crap. One thing that comes to mind is the Soundstream subwoofers / componants with a blue LED in the dustcap. WTF? Is that going to make my system sound better??

Another company that comes to mind, is Blaupunkt. check this out :

What were they thinking when they came up with this??? Ive noticed that all of the audio companies offering this line has cut the prices in half. They arent moving...why?? need I ask? Im sure the marketing guy who came up with this is looking for another job already.

I have no experience with soundstream, and don't really see their subs around that much anymore. I'm a big fan of PG amps, the titanium series are packed full of features, are efficient, put out more than rated power and most of the multi channels models are stable to 1ohm. They recently introduced the Octane series which are entry level. I have not used them personally, but they appear to be popular in terms of value and performance, but they are pretty ricey looking.
