Default Cost to build race-ready C5?

Hey everyone, it looks like I may be moving back to Texas next summer to go to TAMU. I grew up racing go-karts and cars. I am thinking about getting back into racing when and if I move back.

Minus the cost of the car, what would it cost to take a regular street C5 and get it race ready for SCCA and NASA? Just the basics, roll bar, 5-point harness, whatever else is required.

If we could find a Vette already set-up for racing, it would probably be a better deal.

I am assuming you mean ROAD racing.

If so a ROLL CAGE, not a roll bar: 6-10K
Race seat with six point harness 1K
Fire suppression: Fire extinguisher $100 to fire suppression 1K
Suspension up grade: T1 bars with 04 Z06 springs and shocks minimum.
or full T1 suspension: 1.5-2K
New wheel bearings are a must: 1K
Oil cooler, trans cooler: 2-2.5K
TWO sets of Used Wheels & tires: 3-5K( scrubbs not new tires)
refresh brakes, race pads: 2K
Heat protection for wheels
Misc: ??????? Lots$$
Minimum? 12-15K to do it RIGHT 20-25 K

This is all IN ADDITION to the price of a car, trailer and tow vehicle.

Good time of year to be looking for used race cars (if you're serious and ready to buy) with the runoffs upon us. I would absolutely recommend buying an already built racecar. You will be racing sooner, and enjoying it more and most likely $$ ahead also. Not sure if Chris Ingle (wtknight) sold his yet, but also saw last years T1 Runoffs Champ Lance Knupps car is for sale in this same forum. Likely will be more around the country after The Runoffs.

Good luck!

You will be $$$ ahead buying a good used T-1 Vette.

Contact the two guys shown above... or Pheniox Racing usually have a few after the Nationals.

I think I will definitely go for a Vette already set-up for racing. Maybe a C4.

I am also thinking about buying a thunder roadster. I've raced them before and they are a lot of fun, obviously not as fast as a Vette, but very cheap to maintain.

I am planning on buying a C6 early next year. I might have to compromise for a C5 and a race car.

Buying a built car is 50 cents on the dollar....

As they say many will be on the block after Nationals this year...

Don't convert yours...too much hassle and there's simply just too many things to try to do...and do right.

Mine is still for sale after the runoffs. You won't find a better deal out there.

As far as the TR's go,
Talk to TooTallBob, good friend of mine and fellow Vette enthusiast, about the TR. He's trying to form a group of TR prospects(club venue) currently in Utah. Now, when you say fast, top end for sure unless you do the Busa mod then you may compare times to the Radicals!!

But I digress, if a corvette track car is your goal, hands down, buy an already used prepped one.

Good luck and welcome to the fold!---Ed
