needs some advice on safety gear (3 layer suit, gloves, showes, etc)
need advice on 3 layer driving suit, gloves, shoes, etc.. any tips or recommendations would be really great.. for running a few LeMons races and of course the occasional HPDE's
Thinking along these lines
[Suit:]
OMP Tecnica Light Suit
http://www.winecountrymotorsports.co...roducts_id=261
[Gloves:]
Sparco Wind
http://www.winecountrymotorsports.co...roducts_id=645
[Shoes:]
Puma Future Cat Hi Pro P)
http://www.winecountrymotorsports.co...roducts_id=314
[Undies:]
Sparco Carmyth Open Eye Balaclava
http://www.winecountrymotorsports.co...products_id=43
Sparco Nomex Boxer Shorts
http://www.winecountrymotorsports.co...products_id=66
Sparco Soft Touch T-Shirt
http://www.winecountrymotorsports.co...products_id=50
donno if the undies are overkill with a 3-layer suit.. doing a few lemon's races and some HPDE's.. just figure i wont mind having it if i'm ever in a fire...thoughts.. comments?!??!

What size shoe are you? I've got a pair of PUMA's i'm selling for a friend:
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/auto...oes-175-a.html
You don't need all that expensive gear, especially the underwear stuff, which is not even required for a 3 layer SFI 5 suit.
Do you have any budget in mind you'd like to stay within?

http://www.discoveryparts.com/ provides discounts to NASA members
This time of the year there are discounts on end of the year run or out of style designs.
No need to spend mega $$ on a suit.
G-force makes some fine equipment. Even some custom made suits for several forum members

yea.. been finding some nice high end suits under $1k.. what are your thoughts on the quality, weight, breathing characteristics and mobility of that suit (and others)? It gets pretty hot down here in the summer, so something lightweight would be nice.. trying to max protection while not getting bulky or hot. it seems worth some $$ to keep myself cool, mobile and protected.

It will be very very HOT.
May want to also look into a "cool" or "fast" cooling system

You can even get a custom suit built by some places for under $1k, 2 layers, SFI 5 rated.
Also, the PUMA shoes, size 45 in PUMA is about 11.5US according to SUBEsports sizing chart for PUMA's.

As for the custom suit.. i checked out your website and say that.. they suit i was looking at is 3 layer.. many of the 2 layers i looked at were heavier and bulkier than that 3 layer suit.. but thats thinking more's law (more is better).. is there an advantage to 2 layer?

The coolshirt type systems are great, and there is a new system from 986 that's very innovative.
2 layer suits are sometimes heavier b/c you need thicker materials to get the same SFI rating, but if a lightweight nomex is used and it constructed so it won't bunch up in areas, it can be quite a bit lighter.
Definitely use whatever size fits, charts are just words.

so 2 layer and 3 layer suits have the same fire rating?!?

Basically, once you get to a certain fire rating (SFI 5 as required by NASA and SCCA), the more expensive suits are just more comfortable. I found a couple of really really nice suits right around the $1000 price point. I really liked the Sparco X Light and Tech light suits. I ended up with a slightly different one (Sparco Super speedway, but it's discontinued) for two reasons - it fit me better and it was a little cheaper since it was a closeout.

It really is very important to try on suits, as the sizing is not only different from brand to brand and model to model (even within a brand), but the designs are using different cuts, and for different body types. Just because you are 5'9 and 170lbs doesn't mean you'll fit into whats on the chart...you might have really long legs or something.
