GM Names Clinical Psychologist to Board of Directors
I think GM's future is in good shape now!
DETROIT -- General Motors Co. has named clinical psychologist Cynthia Telles as a director, giving the automaker a 13-member board.
Telles, 57, is on the faculty at the University of California, Los Angeles, where she leads a psychosocial clinic for Spanish speakers. She previously served on the board of railway company Burlington Northern Santa Fe Co. with GM CEO Ed Whitacre.
GM has had an even 12 directors on its board since it lost Fritz Henderson in December, GM spokeswoman Noreen Pratscher said. Henderson was ousted as CEO. Whitacre chairs the board. Patricia Russo, former CEO of French communications company Alcatel-Lucent, serves as lead independent director.
Some of the board members have worked with Telles, Pratscher said, although the spokeswoman could not immediately name those directors.
Telles serves on two other boards: Americas United Bank, California's largest Hispanic-owned bank; and Kaiser Foundation Health Plan and Hospitals, whose Kaiser Permanente is the largest nonprofit health plan in the United States. She also previously sat on the board of Sanwa Bank California.

Another angle - Ms Telles may be there to provide insight into issues
regarding employee health care.

We need to eliminate medical coverage so we can compete and just drop dead like people in China do if they are not super rich.
Japan with gov eating health-care, then manipulating their currency for years in their favor and you wonder why the auto industry is in trouble here? People pile it all on the unions. Some blame but far from most, With approximately 30 man hr. to make a car on average it can't be all the workers fault.

Mr Wagoner used to state that health costs added $1,500 to the
price of his vehicles.
In 2005 Mr Buffett reportedly said:

Maybe Ms Telles has been drafted as the one for this assignment?

Why Detroit Retirees Have Health-Care Anxiety

In 2007, GM and the union estimated that it would require an
investment of $57 billion to provide future health care for GM's
blue collar retirees, even after trimming some benefits. GM's VEBA
(Vountary Employee Benefits Association) is more than a little shy
of that number. It had $14.4 billion in the middle of 2008, and now
has only $9.4 billion in assets, which is beyond the reach of
creditors but would barely last three years in the face of escalating
health-care costs.

If markets didn't work, boob jobs and lasik would cost $50k now.
Oh, and while we're at it. I'm a total free trader, but letting someone sell to our open market while keeping theirs closed is bull****. If you want access to our markets, open up your own to us.

That's funny but the way things are going you're (sadly) probably right. The fact that I have to push a button to speak English in America totally p!sses me off (amongst a lot of other things lately). I complain to any business or government office that does this. Evidently, there were enough complaints about this where I live one County governmental office changed this absurd practice.
