Petit Lemans virgin, any advice?
Will go to US on business next week, would be plain stupid not to go and see Corvette GT2. I also has a good friend in Star Mazda racing friday, Anders struggled in the beginning of the season but i believe he is #2 before this last race. http://www.anderskrohn.com/a-latest.html
So where to stay and what to do and not do?
Tia
I am going to have a look at a Rolex Corvette so i can compete more fairly in the Norwegian GT1 series, run what you bring, no rules, so we have Porsche RSR, bergmeister type of car and against my street modded Z06 its a uneven match, i hope to change that with 2600 lbs and Katech 472

There are a number of places to stay, but they book up quickly due to the race teams coming in. I would start calling now in the surrounding area's.
Given I have always worked the event, I can't tell you what is around the area. Atlanta has some good sites but it is probably 45mins to an hour's drive from the track.
Make sure you are around for night practice. That is always interesting. If you can see some of the weekend practice before the week starts, you will probably see some hard running cars. I saw one of the Peugeot LMP1 cars total it down the front strecth during the test weekend.

Were booked in at the Holiday Inn Express ... north of the track ... looks like there are still rooms available ...
COMMERCE-TANGER OUTLETS
30539 US HWY 441 S.,
COMMERCE,GEORGIA
UNITED STATES 30529
I would recommend booking a golf cart ... makes zooming around the track a lot easier Make sure you bring a bike lock for it!

Not sure if you can still get the special Johnny O'Connel Corvette Corral price ... but I recommend getting a Corral package ... nice to have the private parking ... nice big tent with free snacks and beverages ... plus TV's for watching the action while you relax.

Drive to the track. Camp out if possible. Camp (pitch a tent and cook your dinner over a fire) at the braking point for the left/right turn complex (used to be the "dip") before the bridge leading to the final turn (13?). As evening falls, you will be able to see the orange glow of the brake discs, and lotsa overtaking takes place at this point. After the fireworks show at the end of the race, you can kick back with a glass of wine while all the others are getting into the LONG line to exit the track and begin an endless drive to their accommodations. In the morning (you can even get your morning newspaper delivered) you can either eat at the track, or pack up in your own time, and drive to a nearby reataurant. DURING the race, I recommend walking through the tunnel and walking over to the turn (4?) at the bottom of the esses to watch the "train" of cars come down the hill. There are lots of places to watch from in the infield during a 10 hour race.
As an alternative, if you just CAN'T camp out, I would stay at the Chateau Elan, near the track, and owned by the track and series owner Don Panoz. Note, carry water and wear good hiking shoes at the track, 'cause there is a lot of walking and lots of elevation change.

Corvette corral is nice as long as your driving a Corvette. Last year anyway, no Vette no entrance regardless what ticket you have.
Heck they wouldn't even let a certain Corvette in!! The poor sob will remain nameless, but it wasn't to friendly.
There are a lot of nice places in Oakwood, about 5 miles from he track, and it's easy to find, up I 985
Good accommodations in Gainesville about 15 miles north of the track as well.
This is a very casual laid back event, with access to most anything.
Spring for the premium ticket and you can sit in comfort looking over the 12/1 turns. Food, beverage, ALMS people.
Look for a short, fat, gray, haired bearded guy, that's me.

Excellent Rune! Glad you will be able to make it! Me and a bunch of other Canadians will be making the trek down again this year ... I'm not sure which car I'll be driving yet, so look for either the Silver C6 Vert or the Black Z06 with Ontario plates ... we'll show you around!
