OMG the brakes! I'm so tired of having to worry about this now
Can someone please tell me which big brake kit it's going to take not having to worry about the fading, melting pads, cracked rotors, etc, etc ever again?
My car is running so good right now and I'm thrilled about the chassis and all, but I'm running on stock C5 Z06 brakes with the only upgrade being brake pads I can't remember the name of right now but it's taking all the fun out of my trackdays. That and I'm not getting the times I know the car is capable of if it wasn't for the brakes.
And yes, I run on fresh Motul RBF660 brake fluid
Race car owners, please advice

As far as which kits to run:
AP and Brembo are my favorite. I have Brembo monoblocks on my C6R. They also make it very easy to change pads in minutes.
Many forum members have had success with Stoptech as well, but I feel AP and Brembo offer better pedal modulation.
Shoot me a PM if you want to discuss in more detail.

there are a lot of guys out there running a stock setup with upgraded pads without any issues. What pads are you running? Are these Cross-Drilled rotors?
There may be some more cost effective solutions to this problem unless you really really want a BBK.

This is dependant on the track layout and driver technique. A track like Autobahn for example offers no real areas to cool the brakes down like a VIR with longer straights. Part of the challenge in SCCA T1 before they allowed brake upgrades was to manage the equipment (as Jody has shown us patiently chasing down cars and wearing them out) and make it last. It can be done, but it's no fun.

I'm running 18" z06 speedline 10,5" all around
285 and 315 wonderful setup
I know they clear some BBK's the question is which ones and if they're any good?

Hey, I'm all up for cost efficient but I can't for the life of me understand how anyone could run these cars with stock brakes unless they are cool with being really, really slow on the track

Don't know the name of the pads I have now, or used to have so to say... Starting to think I was ripped off in Poland when I urgently needed new pads while I was on the track. And this was from a race car tune shop located AT THE TRACK!?

First thing you need is brake ducting to get air to them no matter what brakes you run. Budget will dictate you brake package. Do you want to buy now rims to get 18"? If not get Wilwood SL-6 from LGM and some brake ducting.

Brake ducting will be ordered along with the brake kit, but which one will make me worry no more about these issues I have now?

Are you running 17" wheels up front? If so you will be limited on brake kits.

I run Stoptechs, but as John Shiels says." Cooling is necessary"

Does anyone know if I can fit the 380 Brembo Gran Turismo disc with 18" speedline 10,5" z06 wheels?
If not, will the 355 fit?
Slotted or drilled?

there are compromises everywhere but.... most anything can be solved with enough money
i have good luck with dtc 70's, pfc 01's and raybestos pads on stock calipers. I swear the SRF makes all the difference. The stuff is unbeatable...period..no one comes close ! I just figure it is cheaper to buy stock rotors on a regular basis i keep 3 sets at all times
But even the pros with 250,000 to one million dollar race cars get greasy brakes. Driving also includes managing the systems in the car.
brakes get hot- back off on the brakes for a couple turns, engine oil gets hot- short shift for awhile. etc etc etc.
Study other professionals braking techniques, maybe you find one you like.
but Brembos are VERY NICE... I am jealous
FYI- you might have a teeny weeny bit of water hiding on your brake system. i had a Z06 that I just could not get rid of that damn moisture. my fault for buying a salvage car bought a single owner vette next and the brakes are fricken amazin' !
I really think people under rate the C5 calipers

C5 stock squeezers with DTC70s and stock rotors (even with DRM ducts) = multiple brake jobs per weekend along with tapered pads and busted rotors.........
At least that was the case for our T1 car. The C6 caliper (identical to the C5 but with more material in the bridge) helped the taper issue and switching to Cobalt pads helped alot with rotor wear.........
I LOVE the new WILWOODS!!!

I would probably do AP or Brembo as ST said above if you have the coin and the wheels to fit them. Check which ones you get as I am sure there are many different combos on each make.
