Default Dash replacement with data system

Anybody here fully replaced their dash with a data acquisition system? If so, how are you measuring fuel from the two tanks?

I'm considering options - custom sensors can be tricky. Is it possible to take voltage straight from the sending units and merge/average the results?

Subscribing for any answers.

I've replaced the PCM in my car with an AEM Infinity, and will be using an AiM EVO4 with an MXL for the dash, so the fuel level question is something that's occurred to me as well.

I've been presuming I would take voltage inputs of the two OEM fuel level sensors and then use a math channel to combine/merge/average the results as you proposed, and come up with some sort of number, but that's making a lot of suppositions...

I only have an MXL2 dash now. The dash shows Left Tank level and Right Tank level separately. It's kind of cool seeing how they change while the engine is running. I don't really see a need to average the two, but it probably can be done. If my left tank reads 50% and the right tank reads 0% then I know I have a 1/4 tank.

Are you running a stock C5 ecu?

Depending on your ECU - some will output a fuel used signal (which may need to be tuned), which makes a lot of sense on the track b/c you will need to average the fuel level sensors over a long period of time for any accuracy (or take a reading when g's are low).
You can take the signal from the senders, but a pull-up resistor needs to be added (unless your ECU/data system has an integrated pull-up) as they are resistance sensors (like a coolant sensor).
If you use both fuel level sensors, you should be able to apply a math function to the two signals if you want to determine the total fuel remaining.

Maybe hit JR up. You need to relax anyway, your all ready to fast, if you ran out of gas once in awhile, it would give some other people a chance datamotorsports.com

Anybody implement a final solution? I'm faced with the same question. AIM MXG, stock C5 ECU.

I'm actually undertaking this shortly as well with an AIM MXG. I'd like to hear if anyone has worked this out as well. I actually hate to use (2) analog inputs for one function like fuel level.

What about finding a way to combine the resistance of the two tank sender units, then use a custom programmable unit suck as this:

Also, check out this thread on how to wire up to an aftermarket gauge.

substitute the aftermarket gauge for an analog in with the AIM MXG (include pull-up resistor) - use an ON-ON toggle switch and check the fuel level independently of the two tanks.

we just run an aftermarket analog gauge and have a toggle switch on it for left and right. The fuel gets pumped from one tank to the other and then to the engine. (I don't recall if its passenger side or drivers side tank that sends the fuel to the engine)... usually leave the gauge on the fuel tank that goes to the engine as that's the one that matters while you are running. - so when our gauge shows full on gauge for the one tank the car is half full.

PM Schpenxel, he is working on a solution for a single fuel cell to work with the factory cluster. I'm sure he could figure that out for you.

Maybe this a dumb statement (and maybe even worse coming from me since I'm an electrical contractor) but why not just parallel the two sending units, take voltage measurement full and measurements empty and use these values to indicate level?

Hi Volts Z06 - did you implement a solution with your MXG?

Unfortunately the project got cut short. A blown engine and resulting engine fire necessitated a complete rebuild of the car. Since I’m going only be using about 4 of the 8 analog inputs for the rebuild (I’m rewriting the whole car using the GM stand alone ECU therefore most inputs will be via CAN bus) I will have plenty of inputs available for this endeavor. Check out my build thread here https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...ld-thread.html and check back soon as we should be starting the rewriting portion shortly.

We are retrofitting a C5 with a Motec M130 ecu and C127 digital display logger. The fuel level has been on the radar, fortunately for you guys, it has to be done in less than a month.

Currently using an IQ3 piggy backed on the factory ECU, and will be replacing with an MXG. Car is a '08 Z06. Thankfully fuel level appears to be available via CAN, however came across this CAN fuel sender interface while researching.

YMMV, I've not had a chance to play with one yet, but seems as though it's a bit better option that just using an analog channel.

C5s were serial comms, which is a whole different ball game, sadly.

That means you will have a C5 set up that is debugged and ready to go this year??
