I have a 7-hour kart endurance race (IRL, not sim) this weekend, and have been using the sim to get ready. At first, I just wanted to get used to wearing a helmet, gloves, etc for that long again, but I was seeing a huge increase in small mistakes after about 25-30 minutes into a session, so I started doing 1-hour practice runs at least once a day.
The FF1600 is a decent-enough kart substitute, and Laguna Seca has a lot of the characteristics of the track, but I think the real value of iRacing single player is that you can set up a wide variety of AI opponents to sort of reflect the gap between the fastest and slowest people out there.
It's been forever since I've done any endurance racing (and even that was on a motorcycle, not in a car/kart), and it's really interesting how much my concentration has improved (and mistakes reduced) over a week of doing these 1-hour training stints.
And, thankfully, the wife hasn't come into the room when I've been on the sim wearing full gear.
good luck on your endurance race. what are the details of the kart endurance racing. That seems like a fun event...

Atlanta Motorsports Park is a track/country club (like Spring Mountain in NV) that's about 45 minutes from my home, and also has a world-class kart track wherein they host sanctioned races, endurance events, and general-public rental karting.
Hi, can I ask what VR headset are you using? I just built my BIL a pretty nice gaming PC and he’s trying to VR race in iracing with a quest 3 but it looks like crap. We’ve watched and tinkered with most settings as per YT videos but he’s still not happy. For reference, the pc is Ryzen 7 7700 with 5070ti.
I just tried my Quest 3 on my pc and thought it looked pretty good overall and ran pretty well. A bit pixelated in the very far distance but that’s it. I kind of think that’s the best we will get with the Quest 3 though. .
Thanks and very nice set up. You must have a pretty beefy power supply!!
I was using the Sony PSVR2 with an adapter until switching to triples - it wasn't Gran Turismo 7 gorgeous, but it looked very good and I was usually around 120-140 fps

nice, this is very similar to the autobahn karting track. Are you doing it in rental karts?
Yes, the endurance races are all in rentals - to me, the "arrive & drive" model is the most appealing; I love racing, but I really fell out of love with all the maintenance, prep, loading, hauling, unloading, etc etc etc that goes along with racing anything

wait there is a world of grassroots racing that doesn't have a 2~4:1 ratio where you spend somewhere between 2 and 4x the amount of time under/next to/working on the car than you do driving? huh, what a novel concept...

Installed a 4-corners haptic system last night, and -even though I'm still fine tuning the setup- it's been awesome on the handful of laps I ran this morning. If you haven't looked into adding the shakers, definitely think about.

i have a pimax crystal light. I don’t think there is anything sharper. Part of the issue with the q3 is you are sending compressed video. Pcl is direct connection and high resolution. You need a beast of a card to drive it though.

I installed a Buttkicker Pro and really like it. I only did a single though and mounted it right under the seat.
100% iRacing where I'm 50/50 road and oval. It's a very addictive hobby and I can get sucked into racing until 3am on a work night sometimes .
This is rig #2 after selling my starter setup which was fanatec csl elite, obutto revolution rig, triple 24" setup.
New PC is self built with 7800x3d microcenter bundle with nvidia 3080 ftw.
Triple Samsung g5 32"
Rig is Advanced Sim Racing ASR-6 and I'm currently rocking both the integrated and stand alone triple monitor stand for a full on belt and suspenders approach.
Kirkey seat from a legends car, which I find way more comfy than it looks.
SIMTAG Tilton pedals.
Simucube sport wheelbasesimracebay Lambo GT3 wheel for road
Richmotech 14" MPI for oval
SiMagiic SQ1 sequential shifter
HSR wind sim
Yamaha receiver with NHT 5.1 Surround speaker setup.
Buttkicker mini under seat.
Simdog robo lab2 (pictured in charging mode)
I decided to go with a stand alone server rack to somewhat keep all the additional equipment organized
Pretty happy with it overall, and huge upgrade from previous rig. I'm right at 170' fov with the monitor 24" from my eyes. Stays above 100fps with most hogh quality settings enabled. Will probably add more bass shakers in the future and I'm also interested in a roof and ambient lighting setup.
That's a seriously impressive evolution of your rig. Moving from a starter setup to a dedicated build like that is such a satisfying journey. I can relate to those late nights completely; the immersion when everything is dialed in just pulls you in. Your point about the Kirkey seat is interesting—it’s a good reminder that comfort is so individual, and racing gear isn't one-size-fits-all. On a different note, for anyone budgeting for a hobby like this, managing entertainment funds wisely is key. I've found that researching options thoroughly, like checking resources for informed comparisons such as https://casinosanalyzer.com/low-depo...deposit-casino, helps in making balanced decisions across all your leisure activities. It sounds like you've built a fantastic and very personal system. Enjoy every lap.
