I'm in the market for a new timing light as my old Sun piece finally bit the dust. Does anyone have the Actron digital readout CP7529 timing light. I'm curious if it has a "dial back" function and how it performs.
Acton may supply the house brand light . . . . I have a basic Acton dial back light (old school, no digital readouts ) and it has worked well for the 5 years I have owned this one.
No doubt those Sun timing lights are a bit 'ancient' at this point in time. Nice looking gun, though. I think I bought mine in...............1980? .. It hasn't given up the ghost, just yet. With all the talk about these dial-back timing lights in the forum I think I might spring for one of these baby's too. .. .
So........did I add anything constructive to this thread? .. . NO! ..

Is that the [new] requirement to post? There goes half my post count! [this one included]
I have heard or read that the dial back lights are not really reliable when it comes to setting the timing on your vehicle. One article came out of Hot Rod magazine and they were rating the Sun Digital Dial Back hand held unit at the time against the standard timing light from Sears. In the article they put these lights on the same engines to set the timing and found that the Sun unit was off by some degrees when checked with the most accurate Sun scope unit. They recommended simply buying a Sears unit in their article. Have any of you had any problems with the timing being a little off when you drive the vehicles? I wouldn't mind having one just to check total advance on my car. Once I found where total should be I could dial it back and figure out what the initial is set at in case I simply want to time it with the old Sears light that I have. I realize that what I want it for is simplicity and doesn't cover all the aspects of getting the timing correct in all phases of the engine operation but it would give me a general start on how much advance, etc. that I have built in already.
I have the Actron CP-7519 (dial-back, but not digital) - works fine, shows EXACTLY the same readings as a friend's Snap-On digital dial-back light that cost 5X more.
