When you click on links to various merchants on this site and make a purchase, this can result in this site earning a commission. Affiliate programs and affiliations include, but are not limited to, the eBay Partner Network.
this is the "rule" that I have found that seems to relate to this topic of ebay listing linking, note that it is found under "Commercial Posting" in the forum Guidelines & Rules:
"No links or reference to eBay sales, please. If the sale is appropriate for the Forum, post it on the Forum, rather than linking to it elsewhere.
"
Now, I read and interpret rules and regulations all day long, and that rule can be read rather broadly ("no links or reference to ebay sales") or it can be read in the context of its title and the additional langauge, and interpreted to mean no links or references to ebay sales in an effort to aid the sale of the item.
I actually enjoy some of the wild things posted for sale on eBay. The rules however simply state "no eBay ref's". You folks should know that this is for the protection of our paying vendors here on this forum. It is very true that we cannot read every posting and I personally get help from some members via IM's and emails that assists me to do this job. It's very helpful. Sometimes the eBay postings are so wild/silly that no one would consider buying and I've let these stay for entertainment purposes only. Kinda hard to stay on the slippery slope sometimes though and you can see what happens when one stays and one goes. Hope this helps....
thanks Super Dave, your weighing-in much appreciated, irrespective of whether one agrees with the rule or not.
Many of us would wish to be allowed to link an ebay ad for discussion purposes (like the classic "is this a restamp?" topic, or "$8,000 for this part?!!") and doing so would not seem to run afoul of the reason for rule, i.e. not to promote the business of an org that is not a supporting member of the forum. But that sort of enforcement would require post - by post analysis of the intent of the poster, etc. which I can see would be incredibly time-consuming and impossible.
Hey, ANYthing is possible.......that's why we love this activity so much. Just keep it out of any realm of sales that would affect our supporting vendors.
Hey Master Dave, could you guys consider adding a forum section for general automotive interest that may not be specific to a particular year of corvette or to corvettes at all. This area would be usefull for discussions of tools or equipment for example and would save us from having to muddle through Hillary Clintons latest mistep or Lindsey Lohans latest folly to find infornmation which may not be specific to our cars but helpfull in maintaining them. Thanks for your consideration of this request.

Glad to hear that!! Hopefully some of the less wild can stay as well. This forum is still a great place to go, hopefully not a lot will change with the new owners. Yes there are posts here that technically should not be. The Friday funnies, old tunes trivia, even the recent 2 stroke engine question. I think they add character to this forum, we are mostly a bunch of old motor heads!!! Glad to see you chimed in on the 2 stroke thread and did not move it.

Thanks Dave, that last bit is very helpful and one we should be able to easily live by, even Duntov!
From: One thing is for sure this kind of discourse and BS would not be tolerated on the NCRS forum. Ohio

I see. So you set free the mother rapers...father stabbers ..father rapers..... ? Much better. Like I've always said, I'm forever grateful to whoever created lawyers since lawyers take all the pressure off a used car salesman such as myself in the competition for #1 lowest form of human life.
Hey Moderator Dave, Since most all of the folks in this section like to socialize with and know each other have you given any thought to my previously mentioned idea of a bar thread in here ?

I guess as long as the supporting vendors are not selling $700 oil plugs or restamped engine blocks as original, we'll be ok.
I don't want to get into a big hassle here but how can the forum in all honesty prohibit links to Ebay when you look at the bottom of this page and there it is, advertizing for Ebay on the forum site. Links included. Are they not a participating vendor in that instance???? I am really confused now!!!!

Master Dave,
Now that e-bay ads are appearing at the end of every thread, would they be considered a "paying vendor"? If so, how does the above stated forum rule apply?
Thanks,
Dave
Authooritay = Lawyer talk for "authority". Looks like the jackster is finally converting Bob to lawyer lingo.
I think "authooritay" is South Park Talk, not Lawyer Talk.

I can't speak for a mod, but the obvious answer might be that ebay ads on the web page are paid for, but links by members to ebay auctions from the for-sale areas kinda defeats the purpose of having the for-sale sections for members?
Not really the same thing.
What is happening is those ads are cued by the topics in the thread. Since we were talking about eBay, eBay became the ad. So we have created the eBay ad below and supporting one of the supporting vendors by making the customized ads pull up eBay.
