Has anyone used this distributor? It is on e-bay for $119.00. pretty good price considering it has a mechinical tach drive and adjustable vacume advance. Just looking for feedback. Performance, driveability, any mods to make it work.

I don't know anything about that distributor, but I just had my original rebuilt and recurved by Lars and it works great! Only cost $100 bucks and I have a perfect advance curve. 36 degrees mechanical at 2500 rpm..with 52 degrees total with the vacuum can. And the distributor looks brand new! Very satisfied with the work done by Lars!
I saw a bunch of different brands on ebay, some less than $100! My guess is that these cheap ones are from same manufacturer. I was going to choose one only because it had a black (not red) cap....
A while back there were quality problems for cheap Pontiac imported HEIs...
Jeez, it must be nuclear-powered - they claim it adds 50 ft-lbs. of torque at 4000 rpm, and 110 ft-lbs. at 5000 rpm (or the Chinese haven't figured out how to make graphs yet)
So it sounds like your not a fan of this. I have always been facinated by adding modern technology to our classics. Just want to know if ther is actually a performance gain. Would you pick up any gains or is the stock dist. ok if you use a pertroix and recurve?
we have used similiar distributors they work fine if you for the money the disadvantage they wont fit under your ign shielding.just hook up 12 volts and go
i am not a mechanic. but changing points, setting dwell and timing is not that hard. if it was me i would use the dist that came with the car. lars did my dist and it is perfect.

You won't gain any power whatsoever with an HEI over a stock points-type distruibutor in a near-stock engine. The power you get out of the engine is determined by the advance curve - not by the voltage applied to the plug. A stock distributor can be set up easily with an optimum curve, allowing it to outperform virtually any aftermarket distributor. And you don't need a PerTronix or other electronic conversion to do it...

Did you ever install the Hei unit?? I installed my Dragon Fire last week and there is a "Big" difference in power and torque.I dont know the numbers but the difference is very obvious compared to the pertronix and high quality points I had tried in the past. and yes, the points were set up right. And as a bonus the original shield went back on,tight fit but it can be done.I would recommend the All Ignition tach drive Hei unit.
