C1 emergency brake switch installation
Hi,
I have reviewed documentation I have an still I am not 100% sure how the emergency brake switch assembly should be installed.
It seems that if I put a nub on the shaft to grab the arm on the switch assembly it will pull back a section on the switch but this seems much to aggressive and looks like it would damage the assembly over time. If I use the nub as a mechanical lift it does not seem to work well enough to enagage the switch and then disengage.
I guess I am just not sure who this entire assembly should be set up so it works correctly. The assembly was just sitting there and I tested the switch and it works if I can only understand how it should be attached correctly.
Thanks very much,
John

Perfect timing JohnZ - I just received my much sought after parking alarm switch & harness for my '61 20 minutes ago...the photo is just what I needed as well.

John Z thank you very much. Now I have another question please.
The spring part that actually makes contact when the brake rod is pulled out and then pushed back in reacts in what manner ?
I am not sure if there is a nub that when in pushes the spring section up thus pushing the switch bottun up and then when the brake is pulled out it pulls the nub away from the spring thus releasing the switch button. Does this sound like I am on the right track ?
When I was playing with mine I found that I had to be careful not to let the teeth on the brake rod catch the spring lip or it would pull it back.
This picture is great if possible it would be great to know what the top side is doing.
Thanks very much...John

Here's what the working end of the switch looks like - it's actuated by a pin that's pressed into a hole in the top of the parking brake rod. If the pin is missing, most of the vendors have it.

John Z...thank you once again.
I am really sorry for asking so many questions. My switch looks like the picture you provided. My confusion is still related to when the switch assembly is attached as in the first picture you posted what on the brake rod that moves when you pull the brake to the on position or release the brake causes the button to activate and deactivate ?
When I look at the brake rod all I see is teeth that are used to hold the brake on then asserted but nothing to activate the switch.
Again I am sorry for asking what might be very dumb questions.
Best regard, John

I am wanting to buy and install this warning light on mine, I have the red lense in my gauge cluster but nothing else, ..
are these pieces reproduced ? or is this a used part only deal?

Frank,
Thank you very much...that is just what I was hoping to learn.
Now I know that I am missing that nub. Once I get that I should be up and tunning.
Thanks again...John

JohnZ can verify but I believe the switch was optional until 1961 so you can live without it and still be correct NCRS-wise.

Burning Brakes
After looking at the ridiculous prices people were asking for these setups, I found a jeweled dash lens that matches originals, used a flashing bulb, and installed a microswitch on the brake handle, activated by the same "nub". Works like a charm for a whole lot less money!!

no nub
The little 'nub' in the red circle is what activates the switch it is attached to the moving part of the brake rod and contacts the spring on the switch when the brake is OFF - breaking the light circuit so it does NOT flash! In this picture the 'nub' is not near the switch so the light WILL FLASH when the ignition is turned on e.g. parking brake is set ! The ratcheting teeth on the brake rod should NOT contact the switch or it will ruin it I'm sure.
I don't have that nub. Is it possible that it snapped off? Can it be added?
