As I "try" to enter the Corvette only area (in the 62) at a local cruise night in Frankfort, IL. (featured vehicles for the night get to park in the central area), guy guarding the entry holds up his hand, and says "This area is for Corvettes only"!
Of course, my question back to him was "What the H*LL do you think this is?????????"
My 62's ignition coil died just as I as pulling into a gas station at night. The car was sitting directly in the entrance and some lady pulled next to me and said
does it still have the original 6cyl?
is that a steel body?
is that a corvair?
is it a stingray?
is it a split window?
how much is it worth?
how much did it cost?
any rust?
is it really yours?
then i get comments like:
i would never drive it if it was mine
i almost bought one for $(insert looow price)
i know where one is for $( insert looow price)
my uncle, cousin, neighbor, buddy has/had one just like it.
did you see the one they built on tv?
I have a 63 SWC, as I approached a gate guard at Hickham Airforce Base Hawaii he asked "is this an old Camaro". I laughed and told him it was a Corvette, he exclaimed "it doesn't look like a corvette". Left shaking my head with a smile on my face.
I have a '65 coupe. The dumbest question I hear comes from people who are trying to impress me with their thorough Corvette knowledge by asking, "Is it a split window?" (usually while looking at the back of the car).
I've been asked several times if my 60 is a sting ray.
Not a stupid question, but I get a kick out of the young kids
that will tell you how beautiful it is, and then ask what is it?

My plate is "SLVR65" a softball buddy asked if the plate was for the car or me. Next at bat I hit him with a line drive. I'm only 60 the new 40.
On a side note the question/statement that really drives me up a wall occurs when I in the Healey and I hear "That's the same car James Bond drove." Followed by "No he drove an Austin Martin."
We drove to NY from ca. in our 55 Corvette pulling a tear drop trailer many people from the East asked use how we got the Corvette here. When we told them we drove it the replie was HOW??????????
