My 63 SWC is a NOM (327w/Holley 600 cfm). At a car show a guy comes up and asks me if ... "If knew I was missing some of the chrome shielding?"
I said - "yeah it is a driver - not an NCRS car" - He then proceeds to tell me- all the other things - that in his mind are - "missing" from the car.
So I asked him - "Where's your car" - He says - "Oh -I don't have one!"
To which I reply - "Then you seem to be missing a H#LL of a lot more parts than I am!"
The second comment I got was from an older guy who came up and stood directly beside my car and told me he really liked the car - but he couldn't understand why some guys put those "stupid-looking" Cragar SS wheels on their cars... I pointed down to my wheeels (Cragar SS) and said - "you mean like these?". It got very quiet and he quickly walked off ...
Just an observation - most of the young folks at car shows are very interested in looking at my car and seem really eager to learn about it ... especially the girls. They seem to love the "lines" of the car. Maybe I shoulda had this car in high school instead of my 58 Impala ?
I had some problems with the GM Ram Jet 350 crate motor in my wife's '62. GM kept telling me I needed a "case number" before they could help me, so I finally got the right person on the phone and explained my problem. Here is the first few sentences of our conversation:
GM Lady: Car make?
Me: Chevrolet
GM Lady: Model?
Me: Corvette
GM Lady: Year?
Me: 1962
GM Lady: Is it still under warranty?
Me: (pause) I don't think so, but could you look it up and check to see if it is?
Needless to say, GM never solved my problem.
Charles
So tell him "5.4" (327 small block), "6.6" (396) or "7" (427), is that so hard? Of course there are also a lot of 5.7 350s in C2s by now.
We may have old cars, but we live in the 21st century.
Actually it's a 331 (.030 over 327)......., but I get your point. I guess when I drive my '66 around with it's CD player, cell phone stuck in the ash tray while burning $4/gallon fuel I'm a 21st century kinda guy anyway. Now if I can just figure out how to adjust the points in my distributor via my lap top computer.............................
This happened today. Getting battery replaced in the 67 at a local garage. Lady customer remarks, "that's a beautiful car, what year is that Sting Ray?"I say it's a 67. She's at the rear of the car so I guess that's how she knew it was a Sting Ray. Then she says....Wait for it..... Jaguar made nice cars back then. I turned my attention to the mechanic who was smiling so hard he almost dropped the old battery. Go figure. Bill.
After being pulled over by a local policeman he says " you're driving it like its stolen ... is it?!"
I pulled away from the light too fast not noticing the car behind me was a policeman. He pulled me over and said.....
"I think you could have beat me."
As I was filling my '66 coupe up with 91 octane last week a guy walked up and asked me "Where do you find gas good enough for that car?" I guess he thought I was filling the radiator!
... a couple kids in a Honda pull up next to me. The driver says he'd sure like to see me 'light them up' making a circular motion with his finger as he nods his head in the direction of my front tires. Pointing toward the front tires, I told him, "Those aren't the ones that would spin."
Driving my street rod...
a guy stopped next to me at a light and asked me, "Whadda ya got under the hood?". I told him, "nothing"... but I don't think he understood.
