Default Tech Section

well, after a good amount of time, at least a minimum of 35-40 hours of time put into it, the revised Tech Section of my website is up and running.

The link is the same if if you use it and had it bookmarked it should still work.
http://lbfun.com/Corvette/Tech/vettetech.html

I wasn't able to solve EVERY issue i wanted to but I feel it's the best I could come up with to solve as many of the issues that I could, at least with my limited web development skills which are close to none actually.

If you come across any dead links please let me know in case I managed to miss one. I've tried to go thru and check everything but after staring at it for so many hours on end my brain is fried and it wouldn't surprise me if I missed some things somewhere.

Ummm kinda works for me. ....once it all loads...then page goes to chit.

Starts with all sections open while page loads...then once it loads.... all thesctions collapse but the links are still displayed...overtop of each other.

I'm running latest I.E 7.

Maybe its just me..

Yes, the same thing happens to me when I try to open it. Tries to load, then you can not read it because it writes on top of the other lines.

Barry,

The overall setup works great, but the individual pages/links are too small to read on my 17" monitor (running 1024 X 768)

Thanks.

I have IE 7 also and just the first page writes over itself. The rest is fine and I can read it on my 17" monitor.

S**T
it's your fault for using Windows and IE7!

I run all Macs here at home and things can and will display differently on a Window's based PC and IE7 is known to have various display "issues" as I see discussed all the time on a web development forum I'm on.

My monitor is set at 1280x1024 resolution and the text size INSIDE each Accordion section is set as a 10 point which shouldn't be too small to read - 10 point is typical size for magazine usage so should be plenty big enough to be readable.
What happens if you change the font size in your browser control?

Unfortunately I don't have a Windows based system here at home to test it out in either IE7 or Firefox.
On my Mac it displays perfectly in Safari, Firefox, Opera, and very old IE5. Without knowing what is causing it I am clueless how to fix it.

BTW, until the page loads completely the Accordion sections WILL all be open, it's how that page types works so that the Search Engines like Google can index the info in them. After the page loads completely is when they all close and is ready for viewing so that part is normal.

Hi Barry: Thanks for all your hard work. Unfortunately I have the same problem using IE7. It looks OK while the page loads, when it finishes loading it is unreadable. This is what it looks like.

ok, it seems I'll have to figure this one out without being able to replicate the problem at this end - NOT going to be fun.
This may take a few days - sorry to all those that may need Tech articles in the meantime.

BTW, not that this is helping you guys with IE7 but this is why I'm confused........ it displays perfect on my system with the Accordion closed and open.

Closed Accordion

With Accordion section open

It works fine with FireFox 3 on Windows. The 10pt type is a bit small on my 1280x960 screen setting (wide monitor) but is readable.

Seems MS had to muck around with IE again, seems they break a lot of sites with each new version

Ok so for us slaves to uncle Bill.... all you have to do is hit "stop" before the page finishes loading all the way. This keeps the menus open and all the files displayed!

Barry I applaud all of your hard work, however I have the same issues with small fonts.

I'm running FireFox 2.0.0.14, Windows XP, and my monitor resolution is set to 1024x768

I'm in my mid 40s but am too old to read this small print

al329 and Jeff, thanks for the screenshots, they help a lot so I can see what's going on.

al, I have NO CLUE yet how to fix the display issues with IE7 but i'm researching it.

Jeff, seeing just how small the font is displaying for others in the content area helps since it's not that small on my system as I'm sure you can see from the screenshots I posted earlier. I agree, seeing your screenshot, that it's displaying way too small to be usable.
Now I have to figure out WHY it's doing it though.......

Barry I just checked it out using IE 6.0.29 and IE has no issues, so I suspect it's a difference in how the 2 browsers render the page. So at least that eliminates my PC graphics card and other non-browser settings as a likely candidate.

Nice work, Barry! Firefox works fine and font size is not something ctrl+"Plus sign" doesn't fix for us who aren't eagle eye youngsters any more.

I'll give that a try. Does that change affect all browser pages, or only the on you are on when you issue that command?
