That's one thing that's been on my mind a little bit. I already have an older house that likes to be fed money, so that's not an unfamiliar concept .
I'm fairly certain that it will at least need some door/window weather strip and possibly adjustment and probably at least new mufflers. Probably a minimum five hundred dollar bill if I do it myself.
The owner has invited me back to take a closer look at the car before money exchanges hands, and I'm going to do so.
How much disassembly is required to get a clear look at the birdcage?
EDIT: One thing I'd like to see is a video of the inspection process. Maybe I'll do it myself.
I'd like to post on the NCRC web site, but just joined so don't have posting privileges yet.

Joe Lucia from NCRS also highly recommends Precision Motive in Hayward, CA. Pat has been in the Corvette repair business for about 30 years.

Default thinking about buying this '64

Canute

From the pic that you have posted, to me it is a very, very nice car. I would buy it no questions asked for in the low $30's, even in the mid to high $30's it worth it. Air car with auto, I would love to have this car setting beside my '64 coupe. The white with black guts is very sharp, and everything looks real good on the car. Put some TT II's on it and wow it would really stand out. This is JMHO, but if you let it go to someone else you will be kicken' yourself in the a$$ forever.

Buy It Bruce

You might want to take a look at bweaver999's sticky thread found at the top of the C1/C2 General page. Here is a LINK

And here is how ugly it can get:

See if the seller will at least allow you to pull the glove box and the kick panels, and maybe the windshield pillar interior trim. The car looks very nice, as did the red 65 I previously posted.

I have a white on black 64 coupe that I bought a year and a half ago, and paid low $30s for it back then (#'s matching no-hit 300 HP 4-spd, ms, mb, pw, all tinted) - and it had(s) considerably more patina that this one. Assuming the birdcage and frame are ok, I think with the new paint and ac that it's a pretty good deal.

What are your plans for the car - sunday driver, show car, future dragster?...

Looks like a great driver.....echo previous comments on the birdcage and frame check. Ten years ago I paid just about what you are considering paying for my frame off restored '65 Air Coupe (300hp original motor, four speed, PS, Teak wheel, CC Group)....at that time it had three documented NCRS Top Flights (Regionals) and all the restoration documentation including receipts and photos. I had a Corvette expert (club buddy) look it over to check everything as real before I plunked the money down....also talked to the shop owner where the restoration was done. In todays economy, if the items noted check out and you want a nice looking midyear GO FOR IT! It will never be worth less and you get the fun of driving it in the meantime! Oh....I LIKE THE COLOR!

That thread should be required reading for anybody buying their first vette. I think nearly everyone of us grabbed a flashlight and went out and crawled up under our dashes after reading that one. If the seller balks at removing the kick panels, glove box,or the interior windshield trim, that's not a very good sign.

Default California car

It it is a original California car your probably a little safer then if it came from a harsh weather area. You also save dollars buy not having to fly out and inspect the car or having it shipped. Anyway the price seems fair and you should always expect to find problems with any old car. Good look in any case. Greg

Assuming the car passes a decent inspection and is as presented in this thread, I think it's a great buy.

I went over today and gave him a deposit. After checking out behind the glove box and under the dash.
I think I made a timely decision because he said that the car had just been discovered.
I'll try not to count my chickens too much. I guess there's a possibility of someone making him an offer that makes his eyes bug out, but I've put my flag in the sand.
He had the glove box taken out before I got there. It was an education for him because he didn't know that without the stuff behind the dash there wasn't a car. That might be able to be inferred by the condition of the frame and underbody (very nice).
It was purty. There's some orange in there but that's glue.
It's as to be expected because, if as he said, the car hasn't seen a rain drop in several decades.
I also tried the shift lockout and it worked as expected.
Here's what I saw:

Finally, the "money shot". A little Corvette ****.
I think someday there might be a red one that belongs between these two, but for now I only have to spots in the garage.

Hard to tell from the pics but it looks like the trim tag may say it was an original Daytona Blue with Dk Blue interior? Also looks like the dash was dyed black maybe. If so thats another gorgeous color combo! Congrats on the purchase what a great optioned car!

I guess that would make sense with the color that's on the birdcage. I guess the second to last owner put a lot of money in the car, but I haven't seen the receipts. Made my heart jump a little bit to see this post. Hoping the guy just wanted white on black .
I don't really go for green/blue/red/white interiors myself.

If you look at the bottom of the dash it looks navy and it looks like a line and then black on the top side. This wouldn't be any kind of a deal breaker for me on that car for that price. It is gorgeous, GREAT options and a great looking car. If it was Navy/Navy if you ever go to sellit I would think that may be a good thing, thats a very popular color combo. The trim tag tells what the original colors are its just really hard to read..I blew it up and still the lighting makes it hard to read.

The only thing I can make out with that picture is 49164 for the trim code. I noticed that it was a bit of a problem in my pictures when I took them, but didn't really have time to get it right.

Which is why, remembering now, I took a second picture with my camera phone without the flash:

916AA is definately Daytona Blue exterior and if I am reading the 491GA right I think it was White/Blue two tone interior? That has to be super rare..at least I have never seen it, and I could be completly reading the Black Book wrong..lol.
