Yeah, that would be pretty. I'll have to take a look when I get my book .

My current intent is to keep it as a Sunday driver at least until I'm very old and very gray. I have a C6 for my rocket ship and a beat up looking sleeper RX7 for open track days. I think all niches have been filled .

Good luck with your purchase - I hope things work out for you.

wow, good job checking out the birdcage, and nice to see no issues there. Good find - good buy. (You still need to check out the engine stamp pad and block casting number and date and to see if you have bought an original engine car or not, just so you know what you have there.)

Also agree that DB is a great color, esp. when paired with a white or in your case a white/blue vinyl interior (491GA) - but that white ext over black int is well done too!

Wow, I hadn't noticed that the dash cover is navy before. Fascinating. Gives it character .

Just got home. Drove it the hour from San Francisco. A number of little things to fix but lots of classic car charm. I'm absolutely ecstatic.

Your midyear corvette just ran for a solid hour without a failure.

Congratulations, you are already ahead of a lot of us!

Where is the car located? There are two people I recommend to inspect the car. Dave Herlinger in Mountain View or Scott Jones in Campbell. They are the best when it comes to restoring or repairing c2s. BTW-how did you find the car?

Dave- 650-969-5351
Scott- 408-378-5652

What's not to like: Forty five year old car rattles

Are there many 40 year old cars that don't have any rattles??
It looks good to me, .... I am more visual than "motor minded" though.

LOL. I'm 38 and my knees creak a little.
The temp stayed straight up at 180* through the evening's cruising.
There are lots of little things, I've noticed. Worn out latches, hinges, and switches. Plus screws that probably went AWOL decades ago.
As an example, my wife and I went to dinner in it. I was fooling around with the key ring and ended up losing the key, probably in the restaurant.
After looking for a few minutes I figured out that not only hadn't I locked my door, but the ignition could be turned on without the key, and away we went !
I grew up long enough ago to have a little nostalgia for old creaky cars, so I'm just going to fix things that are important or just bug the hell out of me.

It was a Craig's list find, actually. I've been keeping my eyes open for months, particularly on sfbay C/L.
Thanks for the recommendations. I'll contact Scott to have him look at the car, but I'm pretty confident that the car is straight and solid.
I'm around Westgate. An area I call CampbellSaratoga because it looks like Campbell but has a Saratoga zip .

Here's a treat. Roy was nice enough to come take a look at my car and suggested I look in the spare tire well. I do believe this likely to be the original, although it's off the bead:

man, you are waaay ahead of most of who took in a new, 40 year old car - nice to hear you won't be chasing a "runs-hot" issue as a preliminary matter, like many of us

make a list, and tackle jobs one at a time - many have found that the urge to set about fixing everything leads to 3 discrete jobs going on at once, or lots of parts ordered that don't get put on the car right away. (this accurately describes my experience too).

wow, gutsy move there - don't you know these cars have a built in "when you are most exposed" sensor (also known to some as a "furthest from home" sensor) that goes off at just the worst time, leaving you coasting to a stop at the worst possible time? Maybe you got lucky, or maybe your car is just biding its time

see my make a list of jobs comment above.

Sounds like you got a good car, and you have the disease we all share

Congratulations on your acquisition.

I suppose you are already familiar with Corvette Clinic in San Jose?

PS I swear that I know that car - I remember seeing it around 15 years ago parked at the old Sears on Geary in San Francisco,
and having the opportunity to strike up a conversation with the owner who, at the time, was a fellow in his late 50s or early 60s.

I guess that's possible. I have receipts from shops in Campbell going back to the '80s. Do you remember if the car had a hand painted license plate?
