The type of plating will have a big affect on the cost and durability of the finish.
NuChrome does good work, but people there are totally obnoxious. I paid $250 a bumper a few years ago. If they don't need any work that should be the price. As far as door handles, buy new ones, that's what I did for my '62

Quick Question??? Do any of these shops straighten the bumpers??? Most don't. They just take the units and rechrome them.

I was at a local Corvette swap meet and there were 2 vendors there (both out of Ca.). I got similar quotes of $225 per corner and $85 for the front center bar. That is triple plated show chrome, lifetime warranty and straightening and minor repairs included. It is more if there are rust through holes that need to be welded up etc. They are here several times a year so there is no shipping.

As far as straightening the top of the bumpers, you need to consider whether you want to stay "original" or not. The C2 vettes came with ripples, especially the rear bumpers.

My original units never had any ripples in them. The rears are still on the car but the fronts had damage to them and needed rechrome. I sent them away to get redone and the chrome shop stated that the right front was to thin to replate. They did rechrome the left but sent it back without straightening it. Did me no good.

Mine does and have since 1968, when I bought it.

If you are referring to my grill surrounds on the '61 (THAT story)...short & sweet. I took upper and lowers to a place in Kissmmee, Florida and was impressed that the owner knew exactly what they were before I even opened my mouth. He had some Bentley wheels on the floor he had just rechromed and they looked incredible. So I gave him my deposit and left the parts. Picked them up in two weeks and they were horrible...there was actually an air bubble under the chrome you could push around with your finger...and lots of the pitting was still visible. Owner apologized and said leave them with him. Three months later and several complaints to the Florida BBB and others and I picked up the parts and most of my money. They were still crappy so I sold them on eBay and got originals rechromed from SpaceCoast (they are perfect). Just one of life's lessons I guess.

I don't know what the forum rules are for panning a company so I redacted the name but going to the BBB does get results...here is this "businessman's" current rating, largely based on my complaint!

The prices on plating is just obscene for god sakes. I try to avoid it as much as I possibly can.

You can blame the EPA and the dramatic increase in the price of materials over the last 5 years. There used to be 5 platers in my town. Now there are none. The EPA closed them all down.

I had Space Coast Plating do a left rear mid-year bumper for me last winter. They took out two dents on the bottom about a quarter inch deep and welded up a severe "nick" on the edge. Charged me about $225 including shipping. They did an excellent job and I highly recommend them.

Default Spacecoast

I used Spacecoast Plating twice on my project. Excellent results both times.

Vent window frames - $420
Center console - $ 205

You can thank the EPA and a dwindling customer base.

How much chrome do you see on modern autos? The chrome they have is cheaper to just replace instead of re-chrome.

Fewer platers = higher prices

Seems high to me also. I had my rear bumpers re-chromed a few years ago for $240 total with no wheel marks.
